Some of the sites in production phase make some interesting smells. Anyway, H2S is identifiable long before the concentration is high enough to deaden the sense of smell. .0047 ppm is the "rotten egg smell", while eye irritation starts closer to 10-15 ppm. My meter alarms at 5 ppm and goes berserk at 15, according to company training docs. It's heavier than air, so more likely to be found around pits, cellars or inside frac tanks (you were told not to hold your face over the hatches on those, right?). All of which, incidentally, is my working area, picking up brine/flowback and residual waste water. :)

Safety Unlimited Inc. website will get you h2s certified for $19.95 or 24.95 if you want the wallet card. I took that one and took about an hour to complete. ou can punch out the certificate on a .pdf file right away, and the card comes in the mail.

They have all the safeland and other stuff on there too.

Most companies will still want you to take it as part of their training I believe. I already had it as a contract hand and just recertified. Makes it easier for their safety department if everyone has the same training.

Any company worth working for is going to have their own program and certification plan that doesn't involve you having to do it yourself.

    JAL1972 Thanks this.
