Still handing out work in Texas?

Do you at least have a tanker endorsement.

 

I've seen companies in Texas that will hire with minimal experience for you to drive vac trucks. I was planning on going so I did a lot of research. I am picky though and only want to drive crude oil and no one is putting anyone in a crude oil tanker without legit experience. I feel pretty confident I could land a vac truck job with little to no effort if I went there. But they have those here in AR for 18.50 an hour anyway so it would be pointless for me to go. Gotta be better than Florida though. Most people that I've met that are working in these oil fields say that if you go down there with a CDL, you will get hired. If you have haz-mat, you will get hired very quickly. Just hear say mostly but it's from pretty reliable sources. Hope it helps

If you want top pay with no experience, NoDak is still the place. TX will start drivers at $17.50/hr, but I got a job in NoDak starting at $21 day / $24 night.

I decided to leave my home 4 hours from Odessa and drive 1300 miles with my RV to NoDak. I am here for orientation that starts Monday (had to to their physical and drug screening yesterday).

 

Lol newbie or not there is SO MUCH work for CDL-A drivers with Haz-mat and tanker endorsements here in West Texas and anyone who says otherwise is either uninformed or completely unemployable. Also, everything I've seen starts above $20/hour unless you set the bar low.

I'm a newbie who got into a frac fueling outfit here in Midland/Odessa (six-figure gig and easy as pie) fresh out of trucking school, and I've also had other companies offer me jobs here including wireline and crude hauling outfits, frac companies, etc.

No matter what you do, ignore everyone who says the work and the $$$ isn't here because it is.

 

Their are still job's for Newbies in WesTex.. Having an RV really help's. I've heard quiet a few of the "newbies" outa school say they started at $18-$25 an hour, depending... Hazmat on the upper end... Tanker is a must...almost, easiest job's to find for a newbie is vac truck.

Just be prepared for sticker shock at the cost of some of the RV park's and look around, you CAN find them cheaper if you look. I've heard people say $600- $800, but I also know people that pay $450 with all utilities and cable included...but those places fill up fast, so you have to keep up with it and look look look.

** not the OP specifically, but anyone that might bring the spouse along, their are other job's also... Lord know's everyone is short handed. When I was at Orientation ( in Midland) with the Post Office, the Postmaster came in and said if we know anyone that want's a job... carriers ( rural and city) need help badly.. I think they start out at $15+ an hour... I'm working in a small town office and make less, but it's where I am... walk ( or drive) 3 block's to work..

 

I found a gig in South Texas with Stevens tanker. Not the highest pay, as there are vac companies that pay more down here. I'm at $18 per hour on nights. Last week I ran 65 hours.

I rent an rv at an rv park and pay $650 plus my electric. Solid Internet and basic cable included. It works. It's a place to sleep eat and shower then go back to work. I'll be sticking it out with Stevens for awhile mainly due to the affordable housing.

Stevens, supreme, viking, pinergy and another company I can't recall off hand that advertises down here are all hiring.

Hell the newspaper down here Wilson County news, has its own classifieds section just for truck drivers. Plus there is a ton of non cdl work down here. I assume West Texas is the same as well.

I have seen many signs for cdl-a drivers. I am in the Midland area. It took me 2 hours to get a call after putting in a app in person. I received 5 callbacks I'm the first week. The company I am with is a Starter company = old equipment and relatively low pay, but I still average $300 a day. That beats the crap out of otr.
