Don't forget that all planning goes out the window as soon as the 1st shot is fired . Then you improvise and fall back on your training. Aireal is correct. Get to Midland area and have papers you need. You will get hired. Garden City down to Big Lake over to Rankin lots of drilling. And that is just the South side of Midland area. Same any direction you head. Lots of small towns like Big Lake have many yards for various companies you never heard of or even thought of with signs out. Same thing goes in Kermit, Andrews, Stanton, Pecos, Hobbs,NM and lots of others out that way.

The only planning one really needs is the "where you are going to stay ". Their are ( and I have counted) 8 companies on hwy 158 between I-20 and Garden City with "help wanted" or rather "CDL driver " needed signs out. Are all hiring, Idk, but one day or even half the day should cover that. Plus their are companies like Rock Water on the 250 or business 20 roads that can be checked out.

plan your stay in each town.... where and how long in area. Shouldn't take too long. ... not if one is really looking. IMO

Adapt, improvise, overcome. Got it, that's why I posed the question. With the recon visit in August, it will give us a better idea than internet research, the hands on approach if you will. At this stage in my life I don't have time to shoot from the hip. Regarding living quarters that is where the RV comes in. Personally, we're leaning towards the Corpus area, wife likes the beach.

The CC area might be harder to find a job than the M/O area, but their are still job's there. Myself I would have liked the CC area more as well, I miss "big" trees and the Gulf, but we are banking money here for "retirement"...eventually. It was easier for me to find a good job here also.

Sun Coast Resources is hiring in Corpus Christi. Most of the work is in the Karnes City area right now. They pay by the hour. Eastex is also hiring in Three Rivers (about an hour out of CC). I think Mission Petroleum is hiring in CC. Dupre is hiring and Thomas Petroleum is hiring in CC. Most companies pay by the load and that pays better as long as there is work. When things slow down you don't make money. Gazelle is hiring in CC and so is State Wide and Valley Transport. Tiga is hiring but they hire O/O. there may be a fleet operator looking for drivers though.

Tri-Can is hiring just outside Corpus but they mostly do sand, dust, and lowboy. They also have fracing pumps but I think the bulk of their fleet is sand cans.

You would make the most money at Eastex but you never see your family. Good luck! But all you really need is a CDL and you will find a job.

Nabors just merged with C&J Energy so they might be hiring in Mathis or Kenedy.

I don't really think you need to go to West TX if you have heart set on CC. With your exp. you will prob will find a equal pay job. My husband had some friends who did that CC to SA run haul Oil and made good money. My husband had got job offer out of Goerge West which isn't far from CC and seemed ok but pay was percentage had it been hourly he would of taken.
CC is a cool place and even though they have that humidity(I never noticed) a lot of times they also have a nice ocean breeze I felt most times I went there. Nice people and even if you can make more in West TX you will have more in end with cheaper rent and a life with your family.

One reason why there is work for you in the CC area is because most..or all... of the oil is headed to the gulf somewhere. The carriers can set up along the coast and go out to the patches from there. If you are looking at crude transport...CC to Houston should have plenty of work. If you were looking for sand/water hauling or well services work, you might have to get over closer to the patches.

You have everything the crude haulers along the coast are looking for. They will be happy to train you on crude and put you to work. My opinion, you just need to decide which one you want to work for and get an app in. From what little I know but from what I've heard...Dupre Logistics... would be a first contact for me.
