The cons:
*Corpus Christi definitely has *some* oilfield work going on, it's just not as busy as other areas in Texas when it comes to fracking so the hours and the pay are generally both slightly less than the more booming areas.
*There is a larger pool of local workers for employers to hire from, so there can be a bit more competition for the better jobs.
*Humidity (I was there dropping off a tanker a few weeks ago, the stickiness in the air is AWFUL)
The pros (there are quite a few):
*Lower cost-of-living all around.
*An actual city with things to do and places to go.
*The beaches (not the best in the world, but still)
*Less hours means more family time, which sounds like what you're looking for. Also, "less" is relative. A lot of the oilfield guys I talk to who have worked down there average 50-60 hours/week as opposed to the 100+ we can put in in West Texas.
*Lower temperatures overall
Overall, CC might be a good bet. With 4 years experience and all your endorsements, you'll have your pick of quite a few decent options. I'd look at fuel hauling personally (crude or diesel transport). You'll have a decent gig with solid money and respectable hours too if you go that route.
Good luck to you man.H-Town Thanks this. -
So what does it take to get hired out in the Midland/Odessa area.....I just got my TWIC card and Hazmat already had my Tankers endorsement....But only have dealt Van....I have 5yrs OTR

Actually what he is saying is get to Midland/Odessa and hit the pavement... that is ALL it takes to get a job around here. Good job may take a couple days..or even a week. Bring your CDL, Tanker ...and a good pen hand to do the app's.
The hard part in this area is #1 finding housing...#2 finding affordable housing... #3 remember to forward your mail and get a P.O box... lmao.. Yeah I work at the Post Office... Hubbies the driver. -
Thanks for the info, regarding "get off your a~~", I always remember the phrase, "fail to plan, plan to fail".
jjsiegal Thanks this.
