Does it matter what state you got the CDL in?

Nope, it doesn't, although if you switch to TX you will have to re-take the Hazmat.

More importantly, MANY companies don't even require you to switch your CDL over to TX.

Mine is still from another state, as are half the other drivers I meet who do a variety of jobs (frac, frac fueling, wireline, crude, sand, and water hauling, etc) with a variety of companies, both big and small.

Some companies care, but it seems like most are happy so long as your CDL and endorsements are valid.

If I may add to this conversation, lets say you move to Texas from another state and go to the local TX DPS to get your HM endorsement, you WILL have to have your original birth certificate or a certified copy. If you have a Xerox copy of your birth certificate, that won't work.

And if you were like me and did lose your original birth certificate, you will have to contact the State Health Department/ vital records department that you were born in, and ask them exactly what they need to give you a certified copy. All state Health Departments are using a third party called vitalcheck.com to help you get your birth certificate. Don't use vitalcheck. Take care of it yourself. In my case the vital records dept. of the state I was born in required medical records that were older than 5 years. Then you go to your Doctor's office and they say those old records are warehoused and take two weeks and $25 to retrieve. Then you finally send all those records in, and it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get your birth certificate processed. The best thing to do is drive to that state yourself and get same day service.

My TSA clearance only took two weeks after fingerprinted.

Bottom line is it can be, but not always, a huge hassle these days to get your HM.

Lol come on man, passenger endorsement isn't needed for any of the high-paying oilfield jobs. There's no need for it unless the OP wants to be a shuttle driver and make the least money out of anyone driving out there in the fields.
