    Hello,

My husband is currently in CDL school. We are hoping he can find a job in the West Texas Oilfields when he is done. My husband is used to hard work as he has worked on a farm and his last job he worked as much as 76 hours in a 5 day period in a warehouse weekly. He is a hard worker and very dedicated. He is looking for something where he can do a rotation maybe 14/7, 15/6 with off days paid. He is hoping for at least $17hrly. is this possible? If not what is more likely? Can you also provide me with some companies he can apply with. We live in Texas so if anyone knows of ant job fairs coming up that would be great as well. Thanks in advance!

    God Speed,

    Truckers Wife

Off days paid , doesnt exist no more in this part of the world. at best you got PTO for 8 hours paid.(which in my opinion is a joke when you usually work 15, but hey, its better than nothing..)

Starting range goes from 15 to 16 with the "big names" which usually guarantee the hours that makes it worth , some other companies pays more hourly but offer less hours. And more than likely he ll start with nights.

Job fairs = loss of time, most of the big cie will ask you to go online and fill up application. (nabors, select, basic to name a few).
Every yard have Hiring signs Up, for two ,main reasons, they need more drivers to do more jobs, and the turnover is quite high so once trained quite a few jump boat and go see if the grass is greener over the fence.

What area of TX are you in? That would help. He shouldn't have any trouble finding a job...if you live near any of the oilfields. He may have to work long, long hours and sacrifice time at home to keep the boss happy... at least for the first year or so.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply,

MAD Frenchmen, are there jobs that still pay the 8 hrs PTO? Do you know if Nabors, Baker Hughes and Schlumberger do? When you say hours that make it worth it, is that 80hrs +

yes comapnies that pays the PTO still exist.
if you look at just driving - usually starting with fluid services, aka water hauling, you can't really go over 70 per week - aka DOT regulations, However some outfits paying ticket time could make that happening, but as a new driver you wont have the area knowledge that will make you get a lot of loads.
The night shift usually brings an extra $1 .

for lots of hours but no driving, go with Frac crew, but then the schedule will be way different as they stay longer in the field.

Thanks so much Handog! Do yo uhave any idea what they pay? The rotation? or the housing situation?
Also my husband has never been in trouble with the law or anything like that.

One more thing will they pay him more with the HAZMAT endorsement or will that not matter since he is straight out of CDL school?

The hourly rate should meet or exceed what you're looking for. I think HAZMAT is expected for tanker drivers. No extra pay that I know of. Talk to a recruiter for more details. I think they hire new drivers as long as it's not fuel. But you will have to confirm that. Good luck.

Edit: Wait for China. He is much more knowledgeable.

Given your location and desire for a rotating schedule.. a frac crew probably fits the best. He would likely have to travel to the San Antonio or Midland areas for work... do his 14 days then home for a bit. He wouldn't need Hazmat for that job and he wouldn't be driving all that much... but if he can handle the physical demands..it's good work from what I'm told.

Do all of these jobs pay per diem? And for the larger companies that provide housing, do you recommend applying online or going to the site?
