I'm a student Class A CDL Licensee in Illinois. I'm going to acquire both the Tanker and Hazardous Materials Endorsements.

Is it better, worse or indifferent to get a Combination Tank and Hazardous Materials (X) Endorsements or both the Tanker Vehicles (N) Endorsement and the Vehicles Carrying Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement separately.

Also, I assume you can test out for both in an "X" Endorsement as opposed to a separate test for both "N" and "H" Endorsement.

Is any one way better or easier than the other?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

They are separate tests and separate endorsements that combined, give you an x endorsement. You can get tanker while still in a learners permit, but you need to actually have your CDL to apply for HazMat.

Either way it's two separate tests, both of which are simple.

You used to be able take all of your endorsement tests at the same time. You might have to wait on your background check for the haz-mat now. You should be able to take the test though.
