Just a little FYI: If you check me out you'll see I was a trucker. Had my own , crossed into crude then got out and into the pipeline business end. Doing very well thank you and enjoying it except for the trailer life but like the man said...save save, save.
Anyway my job is hooking up CTB's to the pipeline. I just finished one here South of Midland. Big dawg too. 16x400's , a SWD, and a gas meter run over to a major player. Complete automation and telemetry too. Now I'm running lines from other CTB's in the area to this one. Kind of imagine a wagon wheel and this CTB is the hub.
I just kicked off another project too. The well isn't even in yet. They will put a CTB by the well and then I'm running 3 miles of lines to the front of the property for another CTB. Point is 2 fold here. Owner doesn't want trucks on property and be easier to tie the front CTB later into wagon wheel I spoke of.
The whole point is this, I can see and hear many on my side wanting a severe reduction in trucks working the CTB's. It won't happen over night but I can see them turning the tide in say 5 or so years in this area.
So...not doom and gloom, just a little FYI for those of the forward thinking set..........
Now do what I did, get your butt back to school, learn the stuff and own it and come out here and make some real money. No free time here drivers, check is always right too.
Good luck!!

Interesting. thanks for the update.
So, what is your trade? What did you have to go to school for?
Is there a lot of telemetry type work going on? -
-
Title is inspector: Job includes ROW's, lines, meter stations and CTB construction. Honestly all you have to do is read. Engineer sets the specs and you verify they are being followed.
School you need is OSHA 30 hr ( on line ) CPWI AWS/CWI cert and a NACE cert helps. OK is the hub for inspectors. Tons of companies looking. Any kind of pipefitting, boiler maker, or welding exposure would give you a big leg up understanding the schooling.
Go get 'em and good luck.Scott101 Thanks this. -
What's a CTB? -
Sorry missed the question on telemetry, yes, al new CTB's are using it and solar in my area. Having crude experience I think they're awful brave too. 16x400's with only one pot?? No way trucks could keep up if pipeline went down. Takes close to an hr. to load 180 bbls and prolly another 15 mins to position another truck.
Only solution would be to shut down well which is usually a no no.Scott101 Thanks this. -
Sounds like there is pretty much something for everyone out there... -
To the OP ..... what kind of schedule do you work? How often do you get home, and for how long??
-
What kind of education & certs are needed to become a pipeline operator?

How many tanks are at one of these CTBs, what size, whats the daily production, and are their gunbarrels (or OTs used as gunbarrels)?
