There's a couple pilots and a j there.

Rest areas as well by midland. (No toilet)

Hotels are a bit errrr pricey to say the least.

Plenty of free parking options.

When are you going?

 

There's everything you mentioned lol. Just park anywhere, I bet you won't be the only one there sleeping in a car and looking for work.

 

You might also check Stanton, Big Spring or Monahans as outlying cities w/hotels. There are a number of places listed on Craigslist that will rent by the day. They're usually around $95/day. Some truck stops as mentioned in case you maybe have shower credits or could pay for a shower. I have a cousin of a cousin's son who is renting me a bedroom for $500 for 2 weeks..haha. Be prepared with housing as most places will want you to have that taken care of before orientation begins. The company I'm starting with on Monday has RV spaces on the yard but still charges for them (as most do). RV spaces are upwards of $500/month. Most apartments are over $1000/month for a one bedroom. If you know of a room mate potential a two bedroom and split the cost will be your best bet. I know I just spent $26K on a 5th wheel giant of a trailer and will break even in less than 18 months compared to renting an apartment. Plus I will have the residual value of the trailer when I sell it.

also keep in mind if you have an RV or other temporary housing and keep your primary house you can still claim your perdiem on taxes for the first 365 days. On day 366 it becomes your primary residence and no more perdiem allowance. Interest and depreciation on the RV are also tax deductible. I'm still unclear about the space rental but it's directly job related so I'm sure it is deductible as well.

 

Who are you gonna be working with?

 

I'd rather not say just yet. It's a small company, third party contracts for now. Crude is a sideline they're building up as quickly as feasible for them.

 

Im currently in school to get my cdl and will be finished in January. I currently live in EL Paso, Texas and will be moving my family there with me. I am planning on purchasing a mobile home in Las Cruces (much cheaper than anyplace I've seen) and moving it to Midland/Odessa when I graduate. I know plenty of people who work out there so finding employment will not be a problem, but I am curious to know how much are lot fee's for mobile homes in the Midland/Odessa area? Are there plenty of spaces for people looking to rent lots? Ive been looking everywhere and cant seem to find the answer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
