Easy to see why some people don't get hired.
Overtime is time and a half. Not double time. $13.00 reg=$19.50 Overtime. $520 + $1170=$1690 wk for 100 hours. Not great but sure a Hel l of a lot better then any fast food. And a good training company. People bad mouth Hali for good reason. But they do have work all over the planet. Will rise quickly if you are up to it. And can do basic math.

As for fast food. WTF?? Min wage is $7.25 40 hours if you get that is $290 a week. Work 80 as stated above and you have $580 a week. And you get to learn a real trade-flipping burgers? No benefits or very little. 401K?? LOL!! Watch the news. They are protesting fast food all over the country. Yeah that fast food is the ticket.
Show up on time and do your job and you will do great at Halliburton. They will do things that make you
scratch your head. Especially the worms in safety. Bite your tongue and your dues will be paid sooner then you know. Then you can head out in many different ways. And be proud to tell folks that you are a working man. Not some hash slinger who can't cut it.

Not everyone can be a super-sharp internet tough guy commando! :biggrin_25513:
Nope, no oilfield for me. Regular dry van, overtime exempt, is where I'll be.
Hangin' with the rest of the slaves here on the dry side...
Steppin up to the fast food counter with my four-quart big gulp...

And who wants to be a 100-hour Halli martyr anyway?
    That's just silly, son.

The point you obviously didn't get is if you have to go live in a mancamp, perform a lobor intensive job in extreme weather conditions, be away from home and family, $13 per hour wouldn't be in any way decent compensation, even as a trainee! Now if it were a local driving job where you were home every night and a company that had good equipment then that would be different.
Im actually looking for a good driver in the area with those terms (other than the pay, that would be a lot better).
When you compare apples to apples for oilfield jobs vs regular jobs that makes all the difference.

I am quite happy with my water truck gig, paid by the hour whether I am moving or staged at a well site/disposal site. Not labor intensive, 18 an hour good enough for me at 60-70 hrs a week since I am retired from the military. Have an uncle and a brother that worked for hali until they moved the local yard out of state, good place to start and work for if you can get hired. Top notch training.

13 an hour with ot isn't terribly bad to start, lot of people that complain are the ones that are greedy and live a lifestyle that requires them making well over 20 an hour plus ot to make it out there. Id rather live a simple lifestyle stress free than try to live a stressful lifestyle that requires keeping up with the Joneses if you know what I mean.

Sounds like you have found a solid place to build from. $13 is a bit low, but that's just your foot in the door. Get some experience and move upwards.

Jarhead, I completely agree with you. At $13/hour, it is low, but you have to start somewhere. My husband and I got out of the rat race in order to simplify life. Best decision we ever made. Trying to keep up with the Joneses is a never ending cycle if you let yourself get caught up in it. The older I get, the more I appreciate the simple things!

I think if you can afford to work that low to start, just to get your foot in the door, go for it. I think it is extremely low pay for there. But, to have a roof over your head with winter on the way, food, and the chance to be there and find better work, I would do it. And, I may well be doing it, in a couple months. But not as a driver.
