We wanted to wait until after vacation in October to start the process, but we decided to go ahead and get started and just let any prospective employer know about our vacation plans. We are willing to take the week off with no pay if we are able to get hired on. Or, at least the process is started and if we get something, we can see if we can get a start date after vacation. My husband stopped by one place that treats wells and spoke to their person in charge of hiring. He was interested and said to definitely come back, with me in tow, after vacation so we can sit down and visit. The other place we put in for we had to do online. It specifically said to apply online and NOT to show up in person. It appears they are based out of the area and all applications are screened there and then sent to the local offices. It did give a name, which we called and got some information. Now that the application has been submitted we are going to call back today to the person we talked to just to let them know that we have submitted applications. I don't know how many people follow up like that, so maybe if we let him know, he will get ahold of corporate and have them forward our applications. Due to location and pay, this second one is the one I really want. But I know putting in applications is a numbers game and you have to put in a lot to up the odds. There are other places that we will walk in and apply in person also when we can. That is where we stand right now. Still chugging along!

Won't hurt to check around before vacation but I would be inclined to get it behind you before actually starting to work.

Not many potential employers will be very enthusiastic about your upcoming vacation so soon after starting a new job and yes it would be without pay you can be sure. :)

Just saying some potential employers might take it the wrong way. Best of luck in your search!

Thanks! Yes, we are letting them know about vacation. We will get things into high gear once that is done, but I guess it is never too soon to start looking!

I've known a few people who hired on with the understanding they would be taking time off. If you are hirable, they tend to work with you pretty well...as long as you let them know up front.

Pretty good. One company has verified our employment with our current employer. I spoke with her today and she is sending it to their safety department to review in the morning and will then give me a call back. They want at least one year within the last three years and we are right at that point. Got out of the truck in August 2012. Six years driving total but not in the truck the last two years, so we will see what they say about that. This one is hauling sand. We shall see what happens!
