Does anybody know much about the security jobs out in the patch? My neighbor is a local LEO and he is considering the oil fields. I told him that I knew there were security jobs out there, but I don't know how much they pay or how to find them. Anybody got any info I could pass along?

He is open to other jobs as well, I just thought security might be a good fit since he has been LEO for quite a while.

His first problem will be finding a place to live and paying for it. It's the most expensive rent anywhere in the U.S. now.

If you mean gate guard there are some message boards for them.http://myoldrv.com/forums/index.php

I saw a job posting for a security coordinator at frac tech that required former Leo experience

I talked to a couple of different Gate Guards in S. Texas a few times. You need to have your own Trailer & Tow vehicle. They prefer couples because of the 24 hour work schedule. The bell attached to an air hose across the lease road entrance is constantly ringing and must disturb the dickens outta the one that's trying to sleep. The wages ended up only working out to about 10 bucks an hour ... maybe less .... or around there, that can change according to how many folks who want to try it out and have signed up for it. Supply and Demand, right ? All in all, it's not that great of a deal for most folks. I know I wouldn't care for it. They end up being tied down to the pad ( well site ) for as long as it takes to finish whatever stage of the process is going on right then. 6 days ? a dozen ? more ? it's unpredictable, with the amount of things that can go wrong. I heard about a RV that got blown over once when a bad storm came up, they were ok but who wants the headache ? It was a decent winter gig for this one couple who were from up north and wanted to spend the winter down south anyway, but every summer they took off a few months and went north. They had done that for 3 years. The guards that do a set shift and go home I didn't really talk to much, but I don't think they were making all that much money from what I could tell.

These jobs are called gateguards and have spoken to many of them. It's not a bad job if you don't mind being out in the middle of no where. The pay ranges from $100-300 a day, that is not separate. That is for the both of the guards as a whole. Most 95% of these gate guard jobs is a unarmed position. Some are a 9-5hrs and most are 24hrs. You will need a partner and a qualified RV by the company. I could go on and on about the job but I have thrown in a few links to direct you on these positions. Also, another place to search, is craigslist in that state/city under jobs/security.
