Get 2yrs and find a local job that pays that! $80k is not a problem. I make that and I'm home every other night and every weekend.

Yup and I don't see a problem with it. Just trying to gather all the information I can before making a decision. This board is full of exaggerations and idiots so you need as much info as possible to separate those 2 types of answers from the rest.

Come on, we all know getting hired in ND with a CDL isn't exactly rocket science. And of course I want to learn about the earning potential first. Is it your goal to be a trucker or to make money?

It's not that getting hired will probably be so hard but it's really easy to make a mistake that can have dire consequences. Case in point, have you been reading Cplmac's thread ?? Just spilled 10 gallons of crude...Posted By cplmac2

Yes and everyone said don't worry about it and that companies usually don't even fire you for that.

Of course the job has a learning curve but it's still just driving trucks. If you have some work ethic and half a brain you will be fine. I'm not worried about whether I can do the job, just whether if I should.

the money you maketh, is also spenteth. bring your own camper and you'll save on a roof over your head is the only chance you have. but them winters are minus 50 degrees.

boy you have a lot to learn, you spend more time out of the truck than driving... spills will get you fired. The more spills a company has, the fewer contracts they get, and drivers get fired....

What many of us said in the spill thread is, move on, be honest with the next company, and LEARN from the mistake.

And the roads you are driving on, are ruff, narrow, muddy, icy, steep inclines....

It is those who think it is just driving truck, that get into trouble in the patch.

And you keep that lazer focus on North Dakota... you will gross lots of money, but you will have very little left in your pocket. Wal mart pays $18.00 in Williston ND, while paying $9.60 an hour in Wyoming... Why, only way they can get employees, but that also means every thing you buy costs more. The second most expensive rent in the US, behind NYC is Williston ND...

Lot rent for a trailer/rv, Williston ND, $700-1000 a month... lot rent casper wy, $400-600. 3 bedroom trailer, Williston ND, $3000 a month... 3 bedroom brand new apartment, casper wy, $1,400 per month.

Wages in Wyoming oil patch, hourly rate, $16 - $22 for inexperienced water haulers...

And the winter is a whole lot warmer.

You want to work, then get out there and work, the jobs are there, but setting behind a computer screen asking questions, and dreaming about the GROSS money will never put money in your pocket.

It is NOT about the gross, but how much you get to keep.

Some friends went to oilfields in Texas but after the first year some were laid off... they didn't have a life, always on the truck and half of them, the ones with families, quit and went back to their local job. My advice is get a job first, get some experience and forget about how much money you are going to get.

If your up for it head to South Texas...

    Get familiar with these names

    Halliburton
    Baker Hughes
    Schlumberger
    Nabors

Apply for Cement or Frac and you got your 80K+ and no -50 Degree Temps. You will spend many hours at work so just be prepared.
