Daily duties of Class B Frac Fuel drivers??

    Do they basically sit around until something on site needs fuel?? Anything else?? What kind of money do they make?? I am debating on taking a Class B job just to get out in the field. I do have a Class A with X endorsement, but as I've mentioned in a previous post, I am lacking Class A experience.

    May I ask what what I may expect starting off? And are u on a rotation or home every night? And anything else u feel like sharing about your job....

    He worked for the same company as me and goes into a lot of detail about our day-to-day. Overall, the job isn't hard but it is taxing time-wise, and we don't do rotations (like 3 weeks on, 1 weeks off) so you have to ask for time off when you want it. Lot of guys get burned out quickly. Hours have been cut a little, but still 90-100 week if you want it.

    Starting pay for the different companies seems to be $22-25/hour in West Texas or North Dakota right now. Less everywhere else. And yeah, I get "home" every day, although I'll never consider my apartment (or anywhere) in Midland, Texas home. lol

    Most of that will be determined by which company and which crew you work for. For the most part, if you go to work for somebody close to you current home, or if you are willing to relocate near the yard, you will be come home daily and may or may not do a rotation. If you work on a travelling crew, you'll likely work a rotation where they send you where they need you, put you up in a motel and you will return there each day during your rotation. Relocation likely not required.

    You will likely work 12 hr shifts...on the pad. You should be paid for travel time to and from the yard/hotel as well, which means you'll be putting 13+ hrs/day. I have heard of 16-18hr days with travel time included. Great for the pay check...tough on the sleep.

    I just started a frac fuel job this week. So far, I'm pretty happy with it. This appears to me to be a pretty good way to get into the patch. I'm making as much as I ever made hauling crude, all my bills are paid (furnished motel + per diem). I'm pretty happy....and this appears to be the lowest paying frac fuel outfit in the patch. So, if I decide I want to stick with the fueling, I may consider my options after a while.
