Hey, 22yo male from New Zealand, curious as to weather the oil field trucking companies in America (not picky where) ever hire overseas guys? I've only had my license since may, but have been driving most days due to being on a wheat harvest. Just looking to see what is out there, and wondering from those more knowledgable think I have any shot. I'm hard working and am willing to learn, no drugs/felonies. Only downside is I would need a company willing to get me a visa. Cheers

Try the big companies. You can also check http://www.ndoiljobs.com. Lots if good companies there. Give some if them a call. I'm sure some sponsor.

I don't know the legality of how foreign commercial licenses transfer over, my guess is you have to take the skills test here in ty he states all over again.

also, I would definitely try getting at least one year experience in before you start applying for these companies.and if you're able to temporarily relocate to Australia and find a trucking job there that would be the closest to over road experience that you can get

It all depends on what you want to do. If you want a job that is mostly driving, experience would help. A lot of the oilfield companies need someone with a cdl license, but you would only be driving 10% of the time. A strong back and a good work ethic will outweigh driving experience with those jobs.

If you can stand the -50f degree temps in the winter, ND is a good place to look. Especially over the next few months. A lot of guys leave ND during the winter months leaving them desperate for help = a great opportunity to get your foot in the door. Just remember..those winters are cold and the wind has no mercy.

I was up there for 3 weeks during the summer. Even people from Minnesota hated ND winters..lol.

Honestly I would be surprised if you could get sponsored as a trucker.

If you were an engineer from Africa on the other hand..

Happens all the time. Especially from South Africa. There is a company there that does just this. Worked with dozens of them over the years

Give Away2Explore a call. They might be able to lead you in the right direction. They might have industry contacts. NZ is on the list for H2B worker visas.

too work in the US you must be have a legal Visa and a visa that allows you to work in the US,,check with the US embassy or US consulate in Oz..Most likely you can not legally work in the US,,There are some critical occupations that allow people from other countries to work in the US,,rocket scientist, speciality doctors,,actors and entertainers, truck driving is not a critical occupation, now one way to enter the US and work is to bring $1,000,000 dollars to invest in a business,,or you can come to America on a tourist visa,,marry and American and apply for permanate residency,,becareful what state you marry an America,in some states as soon as your are marries everything you own is joint property

For years there have been stories about truck driving jobs and work in Australia ,,a myth ,Australia is one of the hardest countries to immigrate and work in,,As a citizen of NZ you can go and work there very easily..Something about already knowing how to drive on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD ?

Or, Or,,learn Spanish,,sneek across our southern border with Mexico,,you will be in like flint!!

    Good luck mate!

New Zealander's can get work permits for Canada easier than Thu USA, however to apply for a Green card as a citizen of a country that's a super ally with America would be a piece of cake. Same goes for any "crown" country.
