Headed out to Colorado next week to do some job hunting. 10 yrs driving experience. doubles, triples, hazmat, tanker endorsements. Was looking into crude hauling. I don't have any oil field experience so I'm not sure as to what companies would be a good fit for me. Thoughts, advice is welcome

Im sure your heading to Greeley Colorado You will find a lot of oil companies on Hwy 34 all the way to Brighton. Also if you stop in the Double Clutch truck stop they have a Board with drive jobs. Good Luck Colorado is Great!

I notice on the north dakota craigslist theres tons of job openins posted for like the greeley colorado area. It looks like people are hiring. A lot of companies do online applications now so I would scour craigslist, indeed, and other job sites and do as many online applications as you can before driving out there.

Thanks guys, I've contacted Northern Plains, Plains Marketing, and Trimax they all said it would be no problem me coming out. I've had a couple more I've sent out resumes to and some, not all have responded. That's why I started this thread mostly. All these companies say there looking for drivers, how do you know witch one would be a good fit?

If you had a choice, Plains Marketing can't be beat. I'm not sure about Colorado, but I know in West Texas they are offering a $5K sign-on bonus. Not a bad deal. I also know in West Texas, the hourly wait for breakdowns, wait times, rough roads...is $28 an hour. Not too shabby. I'm referring to their yard in Pecos, TX, so I'm not sure what other yards are paying. I've looked into Colorado as well, but I just don't see driving in those conditions when you can come down to South or West Texas and most likely make more money. Of course in the summer Colorado can't be beat. Anyway, do whatever you can to work for Plains, this comes from experience. I've worked for Plains, Dupre, Nabors and Central Crude. Over two years out here, talked to everyone and it's basically all the same, wherever you go, working for the bigger companies. If your doing it for money, from my experience, if you can find a company who pays by the hour, go with that. Many people will disagree with me on that, again, this is just my opinion. Another company you may want to look into is NGL, who just purchased High Sierra, they are growing incredibly and from what I hear their drivers make really good money. Keep this in mind, if you don't have oilfield/tanker experience it may be harder to get signed on to pull oil, you may have to start with water. It just depends on how desperate they are. In the winter like now, you will probably have an easier time getting hired if you are lacking that specific experience. Hope if all works out. If you need any specifics send me a PM as I'll be glad to help any way I can.

Plains is the big leagues, if you can get on with them do it. Might be hard, as an upper tier hauler they can be choosy. They just took 22 wells from my company up in North Dakota.

Sounds good guys. I talked to Plains Marketing today out of Colorado. Told him my background. He told me I'm more than welcome to come in to his office next week when I'm in Colorado and he be more than happy to talk to me. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'm going to make the rounds up there all next week. I put my resumes into quit a few of companies but only got one response. Company out of Cheynne, Wy. Called Ost trucking. But once I started calling companies about 2 weeks later and let them know I would be heading there they were more than willing to talk to me and send me applications. Will see how it goes.
