I'm currently doing OTR dry van and have a little over 3 months experience and have been safe and careful so far, no tickets or accidents and plan on working here up until I find my next job. My question is do any companies hire with this little amount of experience? I live in San Antonio and would like to find something around here. I know this prob isn't the greatest time to be looking but if I can get my foot in the door and wait until oil prices rise again, I'll be better off with the experience. I called Stevens Tanker and they're holding firm to 1 yr driving experience.
Oilfield work in the San Antonio area with only 3 months experience possible?

I am not sure if we (Nabors) have any openings. I saw something down in Three Rivers but didn't notice anythins IN San Antonio, unless you want to commute. Things are very slow right now.

Just gotta check around. Young man I work with got hired hauling lpg straight out of school .

When I got my CDL back in the mid nineties, I was immediately hired by a tanker outfit hauling oilfield mud and water. Smaller company, not a "mega." Granted, this was 20 years ago, but I figure some of the smaller outfits will still do this if they need help.
Of course, right now is really not the best time to be jumping into the oilfield, but you never know.TheDudeAbides and cmbks21 Thank this. -
6 months ago I would have said yes, but now companies have more drivers than work so they can hold out for experienced drivers.

Nabors/C & J is going through a slump but we (oil) are still as busy as ever.. we did loose some income as in pay cuts & transitioning now into % & mile so we are in the guinea pig stages of things getting worked out but every company is feeling the pinch...I can't complain I came to Nabors 2 1/2 yrs ago from 3 1/2 yrs in ND & by far life here is 97% better. ..just apply every where most companies require min 1 yr due to insurance but apply apply apply.. Nabors do have man camps so some what if a perk if ya don't mind bunkn with 3 other snorers haha

Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep on driving and scoping out the help wanted ads and when I get home time, I'll try to go by a few places. Luckily I'm single with very few obligations so location wise I'm pretty flexible. Prob a good idea to get my 1 year experience in and if something good happens, make the jump. Thanks again all

get on craigslist look under transportation in san Antonio...all kinds of trucking oilfield jobs, their will be some that will hire you. I been driving in the oilfields for the last 3 yrs. I live in Pleasanton, but getting away from it, way to much politics in the oilfields.
