yeah people should stop giving in to these ridiculous prices. stay in your car and turn on the heat. thats what im planning to do, or just sleep in the truck. also does anyone know that some companies still pay for your 40 hrs even when your off for that week? thats what i read in some threads.

most companies are going to list whether they have housing available or not because they know its an issue up here. just check out the local job sites like www.jobsnd.com or www.dakotaoiljobs.com and you can find the ones offering housing.

Two buddies left Power Fuels last month due to the district manager (Bob in Tioga) threatening their safety bonus over being sick and not working two night shifts. What does attendance have to do with a safety bonus? Took them both about 10 minutes to get hired on elsewhere for about 30/hr doing crude...

Well, I am up here and the only thing I agree with that you said was that Key is a joke. My company runs 80 trucks, 12 Super Suckers, 14 Winch trucks w/Dropdecks; hauls water-fresh and brine, does flowbacks, production, rig moves and clean outs, and we're so busy we turn down work or sub it out to lease trucks if we can't handle it. I average 90-100 hours a week. Sometimes more. It's like anywhere else in that it's all in who you work for. Also, any company that puts all its eggs in one, or even two, baskets is gonna have a lot of slow periods due to the fact the patch is cyclical. We do regular work for Petro Hunt/Purity, Hess, Continental Res., Whiting, XTO, Stat Oil, and a lot of smaller companies. You have to have good management and sales people to get off their ##### and go out and find the jobs. Being cyclical, you can't be locked into any one type of work. Diversity is the key. Also, although there is still much drilling happening with even more to come when/if government leases take off, most of the Bakken is converting to the production side. Again, it's all about diversity. That's why companies like MBI, Power Fuels, and Key aren't a good choice for drivers looking to spend a year or two in the patch, bank some cash and move on. Now, you might respond that those companies are very diverse and I would respond that yes they are in the corporate sense, but not where it counts for the individual driver, in that they don't provide multiple/diverse driving opportunities. As for cutting rates, we have charged 130.00 an hour for vacs for the two years I've been here, 400.00 for S/S's and 185.00 for winch work with no cuts at all. Don't discourage others from taking a chance for a better life just because Power Fuels has trucks sitting (Key shouldn't even be a part of this conversation). Oh! We advertise regularly on Craigslist too by the way.

I know it slowed down last year around july, it was the same thing the year before. I've worked the oil fields for a couple years and Jan-Feb is the time to head back. Thats when work usually picks back up. I've made enough money to where I'm considering purchasing my own truck and doing o/o. What is it like for the o/o right now in ND
