The real thing to kill this will be from the political committees that are financed by the oil companies.

They will not be making a quick decision, and the current administration will not be making the decision.

Mostly, they will have to decide as most of us do, whether we should continue to use imported oil if we can refine internally.

In the event we decide as a country to not do this, I am sure Canada will be glad to. We then can import more from them.

I hate to say this to the cdl school new guys but just graduating cdl school you will prob not get hired up here... I am living here and working a driving job out of Williston and alot of companies want 1 year verifiable driving experience... For insurance reasons and the age of 25. Best bet get the cdl and work on an oil rig... And get practice on 13 and 18 speeds that's the norm up here... For every guy just out of a cdl school there are 5 with 6 months or more experience looking to drive Up here in Williston... My company every days gets rookies here and tells them to come back when they get 6 months of driving and off road and winter driving experience. Then u can't even go on oil sites till u have the OSHA and H2S training .. U can't just get up here and start driving... They will check driving history and background checks before they offer u a position... Then if u make it that far.. Drug test and Dot physical.

I have heard this but I know a lot of people with zero experience who have gone and been hired almost right away. I think if companies had a surplus of potential drivers then they could be more picky but I have heard of single companies that need to hire like 500 drivers. I agree that there are companies that will tell you to come back later but there are a lot of others who are looking to hire just about anyone with a clean record and half a brain. The background checks and such are really only for the crude drivers for obvious reasons. Just hauling water does not have the same requirements. Also, I am not completely new to this as I have been a heavy equipment operator for the last eight years and have my Army CDL.

Article says EPA is set to stop the fracking by January..

"Helms believes the Environmental Protection Agency is on track to stop fracking as soon as January, when state regulators must write new rules for fracture treatment based on an EPA guidance document that is under review by the Office of Management and Budget."

Its partway down the page.....plus the epa wants to redefine the term diesel so that it covers other forms of oil like mineral or canola...if the oil has the same properties as diesel then it would get regulated as if it were... it would blanket everything. In other words their new regulations will totally screw up the whole shooting match.

I hope people riot. I am getting so sick of this cr@p.

I understood the article. Helms "believes" it could stop by January, and yes that's very concerning. Nowhere does it say this is definite. Helms could be making a political move to bring this potential shutdown to everyone's attention and generate pressure against the administration. At least that's what I hope will happen, and maybe a moratorium can be avoided until the EPA completes it's fracking study in 2014 (search the web to read about this).

Below is just a teeny section of what I found. Tons more on the web. They can't shut anything down without results (you'd think anyway). And final results looks to be 2014 or (hopefully) later.

***EPA will examine drilling sites in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Louisiana, North Dakota and Texas. The earliest results will be available in 2012.

Industry groups said Thursday they are confident the study will vindicate their position that fracking does not harm the environment or human health. "The industry has taken the lead in working with state regulators to constantly improve operations, industry practices and guidelines as well as improve communications with local communities," said Stephanie Meadows, a senior policy adviser at the American Petroleum Institute.

The institute and five other industry groups recently complained to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson that agency staff began collecting field data and water samples months before the study plan was finished. The industry groups, in an Oct. 20 letter to Jackson, also questioned the study design itself and said it could undermine the credibility of the findings.

The EPA said it began work over the summer so that it could finish the study by 2014.***

I'm going anyway, and using this post and others like it as inspiration. I love to do things the hard way, and do what others think is impossible. When others tell me I can't, that's when I know that I must - I can't wait to take a great big bite outta N Dakota, and if it bites back, well then I will just have to come back harder and stronger - thanks for the insight...

Power Fuels has a no pet policy but I guess they did allow pets back in the day but my advice is if it's important to have your pooch with you then if you come up and get a job start researching companies that allow it most of the pets I've seen on trucks have been O/O or leasers but smaller companies might let you do it..another thing I'd like to address is the worry abouth the EPA I don't know anything about it as I'm working sooo much and sooo many hrs I don't have time to watch news or read the paper all I know is this is where the work is NOW and I need to work so I'm taking the risk..it is what it is and all the putor time & worrying time isnt getting you a pay check..I wish everyone the best in this economy and all I know for me in less then a year I am now bebt free and buying land and buying another barrel horse and last year I was buying top raman and stressing about haveing a roof over my head and possably having to sell my horses:biggrin_25513: conditions here might take some adjustments you might be leaving a 2/3 bdrm home to living in a 26' travel trailer or a mancamp or your vehicle but your not alone everyone is making do with the conditions
