I went to C1, Ft Wayne. To become a professional driver, the training was miserably inadequate. To help someone get their CDL in short order, their sole purpose, PERFECT! That's what they do, and they do it for people that do not have resources to pay money up front, thus the crazy fees and the iron clad contract. If you went to a school like this, there is a HIGH PROBABILITY you did not have money to pay for it on your own. Basically, it's a "buy here pay here" program for truck driving, except the consequences of not fulfilling your obligation run much deeper than ruining your credit. IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO RUIN ANY FUTURE OPPORTUNITY YOU HAVE IN THIS INDUSTRY, FOR A LONG TIME. .....that's if your uneducated.
You, by your own admission, damaged someones property and someones equipment, while in voluntary control of this equipment. Equipment that you were charged with safe keeping. You could have killed someone at the fuel island and then you get lost, require a tow, and it's dispatch who is responsible, for your lack of owning a map and verifying the route? An educated person would certainly not blindly follow the directions provided by someone who is probably unfamiliar with the area and clearly not in the vicinity.
I have seen this scenario with multiple C1 students. Blaming everyone for actions and decisions that were made in exact accordance with this cool thing called FREE WILL! No one is responsible here but you, sir. You were and are in control of what happens to you. If you felt during your training that things were not safe or adequate for you to continue, you should have spoken up. If you did not feel confident in your ability to drive on your own, you should have spoken up. While what happened to you is somewhat regrettable, YOU should have spoken up.
After all, you have no problem speaking up here in this forum, your quite good at it actually, even though myself, an uneducated driver, could hardly keep upIUFAN87, stlcardsfn and djtrype Thank this. -
Harrymatheny that was a well thought out and written response to the dribble that fdtlaw wrote. With that being said We're not worthy

assigned and drove? I'm sure that the company accepted the liability you incurred on their behalf, paying for the damages. Now they are supposed to be responsible for your inability to physically control a vehicle and follow an authorized route, to which you credit substandard training?
wow, your conception of reality is almost unfathomable to me. Good luck trying to convince anyone that beyond yourself, there is no culpability.IUFAN87 Thanks this. -
Four weeks of school got you a CDL.
Three to four weeks with a trainer got you enough to drive by yourself.
Any more skills needed was all on you to learn on your own.
If you needed more time backing you should of practiced on your own time.
If you needed a map buy one for $5.00, a phone call might be needed the day before you do the delivery.
If you wanted to team drive with an experienced driver and none was available, then suck it up and NOT complain about it.
My current trainee needs more time backing, but has the basic idea of how to achieve was is needed. And has a $5.00 truck atlas.IUFAN87 Thanks this. -

OP I am with you. My experience was not the same, but the end results and the feeling to do something about it is something we share. Im not going to go through everything right now, because I have already been threatened with ANOTHER lawsuit from this company.
At this point I just want to know if you have made any progress and let you know that I am actively seeking to form a group to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
Also I think you may find it interesting that this school and collection agency are run by the same individuals. This joint business came from the realization that they were dealing with students that often had sub 500 credit scores. I wasnt quite in the bad of position but I do remember the feeling of being trapped, like I had to go through with it even though I knew that I was making a mistake. I just couldnt stand the feeling that I was letting anyone down and fear at the time (I was in the financial industry and saw the writing on the wall that it was about to collapse) that I just needed secure employment to weather the coming storm. Contrary to some of your beliefs when the cards are down and the economic fears are rising I think most if not all of you wouldve continued on in an effort to get back to making money ASAP. Its possible that some may view the whole thing as sort of predatory. Ive read plenty of stories of promises of income being made and then never being realized. Im happy some of you found ways to make it work. I am being serious about that and I want everyone to know this isnt about me anymore. I am concerned that we are starting to fill the roads with a danger that is certain to take lives and Im not sure that we should be ok with that. As most of you have admitted the training could be deemed less than adequate and Im sure you would also admit that intelligence of some drivers can fall into that same category. I think maybe the judgements about whether the OP is a whiner or just ######## could be put to the side. Instead maybe you could view his efforts as way to help ensure your family and friends are just that much more safe on the roads, because the proper standards would exist when it comes to training.
Im just curious as to why some seem to think that its ok to be able to obtain a license with no real ability to drive. I mean you can take that license and go drive a truck and there would be no legal issues with that at all. and thats what I basically did.Last edited: Aug 22, 2011

To anyone contacting me asking for my advice in PM please understand that I am not able to answer you back due to my current post count so I will just give a brief response here without mentioning who PM'ed me
Thanks for contacting me. My attorney has advised me to be cautious with who I have contact with in regards to this school, so I will just say that there is plenty of information out there. Be skeptical of all of it, and you should be able to make a decision. I would rather that decision not rest solely on my advice, as I believe its important to research every goods or services product. Its an invaluable tool and its this very idea that our capitalism system is built on, sort of a corporate natural selection. You're all doing the right thing to make an informed decision, and I think you may even find with more research that there are some other options available to you and then youll be better able to compare and contrast.
I wish you all the best. Good luck with your decisions and please be safe out there. -
this thread blows my mind. Should you be upset that you weren't properly trained? Sure probably, but you were aware of it and did nothing about it. Was you driver trainer unsafe? Sounds like it, but what did you do? Oh that's right nothing. Is the company only concerned about money? It would be a pretty bad company if it wasn't. For the record part of being concerned about money is knowing when to cut lose a liability.
IUFAN87 Thanks this.
