Re: What do you think???? I'm just curious how you know so much about PAM. What experiences have you personally had with the company? I've seen your negative comments (which you are duely entitled to make) on several threads, but have yet to see how you have come about this information. Care to enlighten me?

Re: What do you think???? Thanks for that info. How long ago was it that your husband attended school and worked for PAM? Any info you can provide will be helpful as my husband just finished school today (on his way home right now ~ yea!!!) He'll be working for PAM, starting sometime next week he'll start his 4-6 weeks with a training driver. Thanks, Nina

I think that so many times people expect too much. I went into the trucking industry with limited expectations. Basically all I knew was that I was going to be living a completely different lifestyle and that I was going to have to pay my dues to earn the respect of my peers. Beyond that, I had no clue what to expect. So I basically approached PAM the same way I have approached every company before and since: Do what was asked of me, keep quiet about it, listen, and learn. I feel this simple approach was paramount in my happiness with the company. Also, I probably wouldn't be defending this company as much as I have in this and other threads if I was the only one who felt this way about the organization. Another member of this forum is a young lady I know very well who also worked with PAM (see gypsycowgirl's post). Additionally, I have numerous friends who are still with the company long after their tuition obligation has been fulfilled (one of these is a driver that I trained who is now a trainer himself). Again, I'm not trying to come off as if I'm attacking whispers, I'm just offering up the lighter side of PAM. Simple logic will allow one to deduct that no two people will ever have the exact same experiences with the same company. That said, I'm truly sorry that whispers and her husband had the horrible time that they did. I just don't think that one bad experience of that one person should dictate the reputation of the company as a whole. Open mindedness is crucial when selecting a company. There is no end all, be all company that everyone will sing the praises of. You may find companies that have more people singing praises of than others, but that doesn't mean that everyone who works for that company will be just as pleased. Like Abraham Lincoln said, you can please some of the people all the time, and you can please all of the of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time. |

Re: What do you think???? Scarecrow, I believe that some people will be happy with whatever company/business/experience they participate in and some will be UNhappy with whatever.... So, what you said of your experience with PAM and the experience that whispers & her husband had with Pam are just prime examples of different people experiencing different things. Doesn't necessarily make one wrong or one right.....just the way it is. I will say that I am looking forward to this next year with PAM. If it is all good, he can stay there. If it isn't good, he can look elsewhere with at least a CDL and a years experience. Ya gotta start somewhere! Y'all be safe out there! Nina (wife of a truck driving man!!)

Re: What do you think???? Like I said, good luck whichever way you go. We kept in contact with a few others that went to orientation with my husband at PAM and 3 out of the 4 left because of the same reasons I gave. Now that was in 99. Scarecrow you said you were with them in 2003? Maybe things changed (except the rate of pay) there maybe load planners and f/m's have gotten better but we can't afford to ever give them another look. We made that mistake with JBH and now we are paying for that. Thank God we are now with a great company but are still trying to get out of the financial nightmare were in. Hey if you liked PAM great. Everyone has their own expectations from an employer and what they want out of a company. I didn't take anything you said personally. Truce!

Re: What do you think???? I think this simple statement could very well wrap up this whole discussion.

Re: What do you think???? my husband also worked for PAM recently. He only lasted a couple of months. He gave up a job he had for 9 years to work for them. When he started he was suppose to be driving to Texas and back 2 - 3 times a week. He ended up doing much shorter runs and some weeks he would only work 2 days and sit the rest. The final straw was the day he made $4 for the whole day! I was shocked that truckers made so little. I think penny a mile is quite accurate for PAM. I guess I should be grateful though. He is now working for Fed Ex and home nightly!
