Is there a source, online or otherwise where a guy can get Pete part numbers? I'm told by my mechanic that I need to replace an A/C expansion valve and the Receiver/Drier. I called the closest Pete store and got a quote, but they wouldn't give out the part numbers.

    I understand why of course.

There are no part numbers on the parts themselves on my truck. I'd like to cross-reference the Pete numbers and hopefully buy equivalent parts at substantial savings over the Pete part store parts. Their prices are just plain ridiculous!:biggrin_25513:
Here's an example... I also need a 90 degree exhaust elbow that fits just under my stack. I found online for under $60. Peterbilt price was $280. No lie. Not chrome either!

    Any suggestions?

Some dealers will have summer specials on things like A/C parts. I saw a flyer on the internet just this morning from a Kenworth dealer(can't remember which one) and they had compressors, expansion valves, driers, and that sorts on sale. By the way, as long as its a Paccar dealer, it doesn't have to be a Pete dealer. Hope this helps.

You don't need Pete part numbers--you'll be paying for a brand name only. MEI used to have their catalogs online, but I see you need a customer account to view them now.:biggrin_25513:

A/C parts work like this... if it looks the same, has the same threads, same bolt locations, etc... it'll most likely work. Try an auto parts store (a real one... NOT Autozone) and see if they can come up with a TEV that'll work. Same for the drier. Most trucks use the same kinda parts that Ford used on their cars/trucks in the 70's/80's.

Just curious what they were asking pricewise for the expansion valves, drier and why they wouldn't give you the part numbers? I bought my kenworth from a peterbilt dealer and I've called kenworth dealers all over everywhere checking on parts/prices and never had a problem getting info from them. I gave $36 for an air drier and $25 apiece for new expansion valves a few weeks ago at MHC/KW Atlanta. I didnt think that was so bad.

No, that's not bad at all. For the receiver/drier, I was quoted $127.91. For an expansion valve, a whopping $92.14. Can you believe it? I know many Kenworth parts cross reference due to the Paccar thing so I called our local Kenny dealership and was told they'd gladly cross reference if they knew the Peterbilt part number. I refuse to pay what they're quoting me. I see parts on the web at similar prices as to what you paid, but without the Pete numbers, I'm screwed.

I bought my 385 at a Kenworth dealer & they did not have the drier in stock & forked over the part number immediately. I looked around to find one locally with no luck & went back to KW. It was around $50 because they had to transfer it from one of their other stores via a courier.

    $128 is just insane.
