I am in search of documentation that I can use as a log sheet for regular maintenance on a Peterbilt 379. Something that a Pete service tech would use, etc.

I have two trucks and going to require drivers perform the daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and need some way for them to track and ensure things are being checked/serviced as needed.

Been there, done that even with good drivers it just does not work out. Another way to look at it is if the person who is doing the maintenence can not keep track of it,then there is a problem before you get started. It did not work for me.

I figured this is going to be a rough thing to keep track of. I am hoping my drivers are responsible and care about their job enough to do the things I ask of them. Frankly, if they aren't, I will find drivers who are.

I just created a doc for daily use that is part of their pre/post trip inspection. One driver signs at night and the next shift driver approves. This will serve two purposes, hopefully meet the requirements of DOT as pre-trip inspections as well as ensure things that need fixed are being address to allow safe operation of the vehicle.

Were planning on doing our own regular maint and it would be nice to have the same type of shop form that Pete uses when they do such a think. We have extended warranty on these trucks and I want to be sure we are doing the same thing Pete service techs would to not run the risk of "well you didnt maintain according to Pete schedule" when something major happens.

Might have to run out to the Pete dealer and see if they can give me something.

thanks for the response Admiral! This is all new to me and I appriciate the advice of from the veterans.

A tad off topic but one thing I find very handy is a $2 black paint pen I bought at Wal Mart. I write the mileage and date on air, fuel, and oil filters whenever I change them. Serves as a handy reminder whenever the hood is up without having to greasy thumb it through documentation Recommend you issue these drivers a paint pen with filters and oil, good luck and hopefully they will do you right..

been doing that for years. Put a piece of duct tape on the cylinder head or overflow with date for belts too.

My last job, we had cards that were laminated with the fluid types, tire sizes and pressures all listed on them. Could just read it from the ground.

MNdriver, I will head over to those forums and check them out. Still fairly new here and trying to find my way around.

RoalinCoal and MN; Great idea. Black markers on the todo list for tomorrow.

Those are the maintenance forms that the FMCSA requires to be filled out and to record when services. When they were done.

Not a message board like this.

Just checked the FMCSA book you pointed me towards. That works great for daily procedures.
