Looking at purchasing my first log truck, it's a 1985 Peterbilt but has water and or coolant in the oil, what can cause that? How much would that cost to fix? Thanks!

Could be a head gasket, could be something as easy as an oil cooler. The cost of the fix could be $1,000 to $15,000> yu don't say what engine is in the truck.

Be sure to have LOTS of cash on hand, old trucks break down.

typically you will have oil in your water if it is the oil cooler due to higher oil psi than water psi. My first look would be at the water pump or you might want to drop the oil pan and pressurize the system to check your liners.

He said he has water in the oil not oil in the water. If its water in the oil it's head gasket. Or a hole in the cly wall. If the water is in the radiator then you have a oil cooler problem.

What engine. The older cummins has a problem with liners they need to have something added to coolant to keep it from boiling on the liners and eating through it.
