A few days ago, my 06 c13 accert in dash gauge started reading a little higher than normal oil pressure, thought it was odd. Truck runs fine and oil temp is totally normal. Now, the gauge is reading abnormally high like 60psi at 1200 rpm, and it's fluctuating oddly. Is my oil pressure sensor in the block going out? Today when I turn the key to the on position and let my gauges sweep and do the cpu check and then the gauges display what they read, my oil press gauge was reading 5psi once, then 10 and then 20psi all with the engine turned off and the key on after it does the sweeping thing. Also when I fire it up the gauge needle slowly rises to the reading instead of reacting quickly like normal.

2006 peterbilt 385 daycab with 06 cat c13 accert 430hp. No check engine light, runs fine. No warning light on on the gauge, and my truck only has 286k miles on it. Only a few thousand miles into my oil change also so it's not like the oil is brand new nor old. Is it my oil pressure sensor sending unit? What's the part # for that? And where is it located?

    any insight is appreciated.

    Thanks

I spoke with peterbilt they said there are two oil pressure sensors? One is "oil pressure sensor IVA)intake valve actuator)" and one is on the driver side on the block

    any help

Part # 194-6725 Location l/s block behind engine mounted fuel filter. I would key off, unhook sensor, key on/ no start and see if gauge reads 0 pressure just to help verify that's the problem. Sensor is about $145.00

Ah good idea, will try that tomorrow. Does my problem sound like that's what it is? Also, any tips/how to replace sensor? I see it has plug on top of it. Then a little house runs off of it as well

If your oil pressure sensor is sharing a tee block with a line attached, trace your line to the firewall and see if it goes into a manifold block. If so, your dash gauge is being fed manually and your problem sounds like a line restriction or bad gauge. It would be better to see what your ecm was reading versus your dash gauge to eliminate a sensor problem.

This may be a little late but i have the same exact truck and engine as you and my sensor did the same thing. Mine was a loose connection. The wires plugging in to the sensor were not staying snapped down so i just put a plastic zip tie on it to keep pressure on the plug to sensor and had no more problems since.

Did you check the oil? Low oil can cause high and fluctuating oil pressure.
