Does anyone have experience with swapping Pete Air-Leaf for Air-liner suspension off a wrecked freightliner? I NEED the full lockers and the heavier axles too, and am having one heck of a time finding an Air-Trac cut off with the lockers. Found the air-liner, but really didn't want to launch into it w/o some advice/voice of experience. I could also swap just the axles if I could find heavy rears that have lockers and 3.9s, although I would like to have the heavier suspension as well. I have a 99 379 with a 2WS that is a very nice truck. It's got 3.7s @ 40K. I know guys swap to Air-Trac from Air-Liner with minimal need for drilling, but haven't talked to anyone who has gone with an Air-Liner cut-off onto a PETE. Just "I've heard it's done." Thanks

A option for you could be a super 40. Petes come with Lal suspension and super 40, but if you want 46 rears you can't get Lal (from factory that is)

It will be easy to find a super 40 3:90 full lockers.

A guy I work with has a Pete with a boosted 700 cat hauling 140,000lbs everyday in the oilfield. Tearing through mud and chaining up often just beating the crap out of them and he has never had issues plus he gets to maintain the nice ride the low air leaf offers.

Thanks. I have air-leaf which has a different spring configuration than the lal, at least I think. The glider people are snapping up all the heavy spec cut offs.

If you put a Freightliner suspension on a Peterbilt does that make it a 'Peter~Shaker'?

Sorry couldn't resist.... I'm also running 3.90 full lockers off road with a Low-Air setup. No complaints from me. It crawls through everything and smooth on the highway.

Can't speak for the Air-Liner but I've got a 40,000 Air Trac under my Pete dump truck and it gets the job done pretty good for a air ride suspension on a dump truck. Not sure what you're doing with it but I think the 46,000 Air Trac would be money well spent.

It's also a real easy suspension to re-align after 'major surgery' like you'll be undertaking. I drove my truck for a year as a dump truck with enough room between the cab and dump body for a 36" sleeper, Bought it that winter and shortened the wheelbase 22". Learned a lot of stuff doing that first one, I feel like I could crank out another one in less than a week now.

When I took it to get a 3 axle alignment the guy at the shop told me Air Trac is one of the easier to adjust and best at holding an alignment, how it uses the track bars underneath the spring.

    Good luck on your project!

A Kenworth dump valve on that setup is mandatory so you have a Peter Worth Shaking.
