Hopefully I can get it in somewhere next week and have it checked again and have them really check the jakes over better this time. It really sucks being the third time and have spent over 2k in labor already looking for this tick. I will post the results when I find something out.

Finally got this checked out by souther plains cummins in okc. they set the valves and ran the truck with the covers off. The tech said he put a feeler under the #5 and 6 rocker arms and the tick went away. waiting on the repair now to see exactly what the problem was and have it explained to me in a little more clarity.

I had the exact same issue with mine a year back and it was a worn out camshaft.

What did you end up having wrong?

Had the same tick for around 40000 miles after an overhead it helped and when i switched from delvac to delo talk about a difference. Exhaust checked, overhead done 3 times three places, oil seemed to do the trick.

I don't know about your area but my local caterpillar dealer now services Cummins motors as well as cat. I just had all my valves adjusted.

    Just found this thread.

Hearing the same exact noise in the same rear valve cover area.

I am hoping for worst case a worn camshaft.

Not running it anymore until I get to the bottom of it.

Wornouts reply that the Jake going bad and doing catastrophic damage concerned me in a hurry.

I had a ticking sound in my N-14 back in 2011, I described it like a pre ignition knock in a gas engine though. It turned out to be the head gasket was leaking between cylinders 5 and 6.
