If the Detroit is a good motor, I would swap the engine and not look back.

The detroit is a very good motor, but 6500 and your labor would almost rebuild your c13 if you do it yourself and you would know what you have. You never really know how long the detroit will last.

Yep I agree, and I hope the rest of the truck is still operational, toy hauler or not 25k is a lot of weight and I personally wouldn't be messing around with stuff, how's the brakes, transmission, diffs, steering/king pins? Between the tractor and trailer your a 40k plus missile coming down the highway, hope you aren't in over your head. Personally "price was right" because nobody else thought it was worth the risk, sorry me included.

There is a lot to consider, I'd prefer a Series 60 over the C13, but do your research and compare costs. Not just the wiring, you'll have to deal with the plumbing (radiator, CAC, air cleaner & exhaust are all going to be a little different). Also consider any legal issues you might run into, many states do not approve of putting an older engine in. Whether or not this is a problem depends on a lot of things, but some shops wont even work on it, which could be a problem, maybe not.

$2500 + 4000 for the other truck, I can see this running close to $10,000 by the time your done, the nickle & dime stuff adds up real quick. So wiegh out the options on what it'll cost to fix what you have and what it will really take to swap.
