I'm not holding my breath on diesels, but they might offer an alternative natural gas engine, although Cummins seems to have a lock on that at the moment.

Not as much potential for tampering with emissions with methane powered engines.

I've heard lots of rumors like that as well, but nothing from Cat. The rumors are starting because in 2016 the off road emissions are going to follow suit with on road, so people are assuming that since Cat will be forced to make 2016 emissions work, they might as well get back into truck engines.

If it is true, Cat will have a tough time winning over all the people they really pissed off, IMO. They've done a lot of things in the past 5-10 years to make many people loose faith in them.

I don't see Cat being done with highway engines- ever. They've got too many loyal customers out there, which is now a market that will be looking to update soon. And if off road engines need to up their standards, this puts Cat in a bind, as their off road market is huge. My guess is they've been working on something very new, probably radically different from anything we've seen so far. And when they announce it, whatever it is, it will be a game changer.

WHILE I LOVE MY PACCAR ENGINE, IT'S BEEN A VERY GOOD ENGINE FOR THE LAST 500k. IF CAT CAME OUT WITH ANOTHER ON HIGHWAY ENGINE AND WAS PROVEN TO BE RELIABLE, I WOULD GO BUY ONE. AS I LOVE KITTY CATS.
