My dump truck when loaded and going up hill makes a slamming noise like its popping out of gear, but it doesn't. It only happens under these circumstances, and only in 5th and 6th gears. I took my Eaton Fuller 9 speed transmission into LKQ twice. They went through it and put in new sliders and an input shaft. It didn't fix the issue. The second time they said the transmission was fine. Suggestions?

#1 question are you driving off road when it makes the noise? the rear trans cross support can make that sound when it lifts off stops, # 2 was back box o/rings on pistons replaced an ck. to be certain they are moving all the way into HI/LO gear?#3 if it stops pulling and shifter is not moving its the back box popping out of mesh, then when you let off fuel it slips back in because air pressure is still pushing on it just not enough? Back box can be pulled without pulling trans.

Thanks for your response. No, road condition don't come into play. The transmission hangs from the bell housing.

Thanks for the response. The back box was what I took in the 2nd time. The air pressure is fine at 65#s. I took the truck to get rock this morning and it popped again when I got into 5th gear, this time with no load on level ground.

My only guess was the back box. Could is it you shifting hard or have you? We used to have a driver who thought you had to literally jam the #### thing into gear and it tire the gears up and they would pop like their was a few teeth missing.

My guess is this, your shift tower is worn out. Its often the last part of a transmission checked when issues occur, everyone always assumes the worst. I had a very similar issue in a newer Kenworth logging truck. It would pop out of third and fourth gear. So, we had the A box, or the "back box" rebuilt and still it popped out of gear. we replaced the top plate of the transmission- the part that more/less selects the gears, it still popped out. So finally we replaced the shift tower, the cheapest and easiest of all the fixes. Problem solved! I hope this helps and its still relevant.
