I have a 2004 peterbit 387. It has 3 mufflers 2 behind sleeper and 1 under cab. This is a bridge cat motor. Has anyone ever replaced muffler under cab with a straight pipe? Does it cause any issues? Also the two mufflers behind the sleeper are very expensive @$550 a piece. Anyone ever swapped them out for regular mufflers?? Any thought ???

You can straight pipe under cab in place of catalytic converter. You will like results of better breathing engine. You can't tell at first by naked eye,but mufflers behind cab are not standard size (body diameter smaller)Pete dealer in Detroit sells for $200 apiece.good luck.

Thanks. Yes I knew that they were a different diameter. But what makes them more expensive. I use to own a 379 and replacement mufflers for them were about $70.

Shop around. I just purchased a stack muffler for $58. At Pete dealer. What you might get quotes from. Is the piping from cat up. That is the costly parts. Mufflers are cheap.
