1998 peterbilt with60 series detroit .going down the road and just shuts off like you cut the key off and then right back on

it only does it if you mash on the accelaretor but if you let off just a little it comes right back on.. Like you turn the key off then back on

Sounds like it might be your tps (throttle position sensor) if its got one. Otherwise, I had this exact same thing happen on a 98 volvo with an N14. Two different periods, two different causes. First time, was oxidation on the ecm fuse which on that truck was in the battery box. Second time was ulsd (dry diesel) causing a valve to stick.
Hope this has been of help.

could be the turbo waste gates, detroits will sometimes do that . didnt do it all the time just sometimes. run the truck for three years and it did it the whole time. it seemed like it did it more out west in the mountains. lots of luck

It sounds like the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor that is located on the Accelerator Pedal or it could even be the Accelerator Pedal itself is worn out causing the Sensor to not send the correct signal to the ECM.

i had a similar problem. what cause my problem was a frayed wire at the battery post. the wire was broken inside the connector. when i hit bumps it would cause the wire to jump giving a brief disconnect of power. then every thing would come back on. it happen often.

Yep, me too. Check the wire to the ECM.
