Yes, it was a quick fix. Just remove the three lines and two 3/8" nuts holding the pump on, and remove the pump. Now, remove the snap ring that retains the sealed bearing, once that is done the shaft and bearing will come out together from the pump. If you use pliers to grip the shaft, be careful not to damage the splines on the shaft. Once the shaft is out, you will see another smaller snap ring on the other side of the bearing, remove this and press off the bearing (I tapped mine out carefully with a soft faced hammer). Now, reverse the whole she bang and put it back in with the new sealed bearing. Mine cost under $10.00 and was done in about an hour.
    Hope this helps some.

PS. just ran outside and found the box the sealed bearing came in......It is an SKF 6203-2RSJ

Well it has been about five days now and the oil level is still holding it's own. I'm calling this a success. :biggrin_255:

Not a lot of change yet, but it is a lot cleaner than it was.

I'm interested in seeing how this works out. For some reason, the 359 always grabs my attention.

Unfortunately, not much change recently....... A little marital discomfort, shall we say, and the recent purchase of a house has taken much of my time recently. Hopefully things settle down a little soon and I get some more time to get back at it.

A little cleaner..... I don't have anymore recent pic's of it, but the air cleaners have been changed to non-rusted ones and the rest of the fuel tank is polished and the other strap has been painted. the exhaust is repaired and all of the lights are working, with the exception of one headlight. The housings are very corroded and it's going to be a pain getting them apart. Would help considerably if I still lived where it is as well....LOL

Missed out on a 1985 359 This past week. It had a big cam 400 with 10,000 miles on it 60" flat top sleeper and 18 speed trans. Truck looked ok and was not in bad shape. Sold for $9000. and sure made me sick to know I missed it by 12 hours.
Love the looks of the 388 single axle they used in Ca to haul hay with. 36" sleeper and fine looking rides. Thinking I will find a 359 get it as low to the ground as I can and still be usable. Being I'm retired its life will be only pulling our RV around the country. And for me to feel like I'm still driving. Plans are to build one that gets great MPG and being max gross weight it will be pulling is under 20.000 lbs. It should pull great and still not be bad on fuel. Want it singled with about 8ft behind the cab, Fiberglass full wrap finders and full deck plate. T bar on back with lights and class 2 hitch for just in case.
Wife has tried to talk me into a Volvo 670. But she also loves the Pete 359's also. And drive it and will drive half the time if I don't fight her to drive. LOL

forgot the pic of the look I want. Not sure what size wheels and tires are on the back? But I like the looks of this truck.

Do you know what could cause the pump to fail? I have a 379 and I've put almost 12 quarts of oil in the reservoir but it always drys up in no time. The wheel is free for a minute or two but then it goes back to not having any power. Did changing the pump work for you? I know it's been years but I am needing help
