So, I got a hair-brained idea that I needed a new project, in this case a 1985 359 basket case, to occupy my not so spare time..... [IMG] Now I have a few questions, first off where would I find the clutch switch for the jake on this thing? It has the 3406b and 13sd trans. I have crawled under and felt around, put on my glasses, grabbed a light and can't find it know how. For all I know it may have been removed, as most of the gauges have been disconnected and wires are cut off and wrapped around the harnesses all over the place.
I am sure this will only be the first of many questions to come which I will try and keep together in this one post.
Thanks for your time in advance,
    Don

Hi Don, while I have a little trouble trying not to look at the icon you used in your post, sorry, I think it's cool you want to keep a 359 going, restoring one is not for the faint of heart. 359's are getting hard to find parts for, and dealers are no help and your best bet is a truck junkyard. I had 2 359's and if I remember, there was a switch on the lower firewall where the clutch pedal goes through the floor. It was a long coiled spring deal that rubbed on the linkage. I'll try to post a link, it's on page 1.1.2. As far as the gauges, it's a spaghetti bowl behind the dash, and I found, rather than trace down the wire, just run a new wire from the gauge to the sending unit. Any other questions, there are a couple of people who run 359's here and are glad to help. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply "Semi" Retired, and sorry about the emoticon, was in an off mood last night and found it disturbingly funny.
I looked pretty hard, I thought, but will look under there again when I get back from the doctors office later today as long as it is still light out.
One thing I do think I may have located, is the power steering leak. I'm 99% certain it is the seal on the drive end, as the engine oil is way high and the oil just runs through the pump, with no visible exterior leaks aside from slightly damp hoses leading to the steering box. As I go along I am certain I am going to find more things wrong than right with the old boy, but it does drive, shift, steer and stop well and the price was right for me at the time.

Great. Like I say, 359's are getting scarce, and the people that have them won't give them up. As far as the PS leak, I had that problem with my Western Star, only the other way around. The seal was bad in the pump off the accessory drive, and engine oil pumped into the PS reservoir, overfilling it and blowing the PS dipstick out. Perhaps someone just overfilled the oil. Again, dealers don't have much 359 parts anymore, so junkyards are your only hope. Maybe ebay. Let us know if you need any more help.

    Hey BeemerGary,

That is a very nice looking old girl you have there, I doubt mine will ever look half as nice as that, but does set a benchmark for me to aspire to.....Although mine is configured as a Dump truck at this point in it's life.
Just went out and looked again, and sure enough there it was, bungee cord and all. LOL. Mine is a straight rod about 10" long and around 3/16" dia. I well toy with it tomorrow and see if I can get it figured out.
    Thank-you very much,
    Don

Well, probably should do an update on what I have found and accomplished....... The switch was rusted solid, but after removing it and dissembling, cleaned up the through shaft and bore, lubed it up, re-assembled, and after some fiddling to get it adjusted right , it now works like a charm.
Tomorrow after work I'll tackle the hood wiring if time and weather permit, might pull the power steering pump as well, and look into the seal problem. So many problems, so little time....... LOL
