Ascert c-15 oil pressure dropping

Discussion in 'Peterbilt Forum' started by peterbilt_2005, Mar 26, 2015.

  1. I'm sitting with a driver, he has a 05' kW with a c-15 . he says oil pressure dropped 30psi. When he parks, oil pressure returns to normal. For him 41psi at 800rpm.

I'm at a loss, thought maybe oil sensor, or oil pump.

    Any thoughts?

Is his eng. over filled with oil it can be hi enough to foam if above level of crankshaft.

  4. Just checked his oil again. Its black and 1/16th" below full line.

He said. 5k. Till oil change....

    baha Thanks this.
  5. I told him shut it down for a couple hours. Then checked fluid levels and hoses, Ect.

Told him to idle and keep track of oil pressure reading.

    When he started truck. 45psi
    1 hr later. 30psi

Wonder if. Oil has lost viscosity?,

Would oil change and filter fix his issue.?

Never heard or scene oil change from heat unless contaminated

    check his blowby.

besides normal wear and tear. oil can lose viscosity for other reasons.
reasons that can contaminate his oil. such as crankcase blowby.

he may have 5,000 more to go before it's time. but i bet if he changes it now. his problem will be solved, untill the oil gets contamnated again. i'm betting he has blowby.

i drove a c15 with 6 broken piston rings. that oil got changed every week. or the motor wouldn't have any oil pressure.
come winter time, the truck got parked and motor got new piston kit.

  7. I'll tell him in morning before he goes to kenworth

  8. Update:

Chased wire from sensor to ECM. The "clip" that holds the bundle of wire out of ECM. Was chaffing the wire shielding down to the inside wire. He had 3 strands of wire, causing bad reading from sensor. Found 4 other rubbed wires. And one going to spot under turbo.

He had engine wire harness replaced. Brand new engine harness $916. From CAT.

Not sure if this will help anyone.

Did the harness solve the problem? How many miles on the motor. Rule of thumb around my hood says 600 to 650k do the main and rod bearings.

  10. Did rods and mains 5 months ago also changed out Air compressor.
