Around seven months ago I ordered a new 389 Pete, been a great truck, except right from the first time I engaged the power divider. Truck has dsh40 rear ends with full lockers. Right from brand new, Every time I engage the power divider, and turn or go straight in a bit of soft soil the rear end has a binding, popping, clunking noise, and can feel the shutter through the truck. Note locking the axles locks in or out dosent matter. It's down to where in 5th or 6th gear it will bind when tourque is applied empty with divider engaged. I have been driving for 9 years and this is the 4th truck I've owned so abuse or premature IAD engagement hasent been the case. Had it in at the local Pete dealer for "warranty" claim, took them for a drive, made the noise, and shutter. So they pulled the truck in, yarded the front cover off the power divider, adjusted the rod for the shift fork, inspected and all was good, took it for another drive, same noises happened, after a day of noises, they agreed to pull both carriers for inspection. Three days later, they said there was no evidence of anything failing, and they can't find anything wrong...... The noise and binding is still there. I made the manager aware of the still current problem. And says he's still investigating, reassuring me if catastrophic failure occurs, they will look after every dime, and have me up and going in no time. Most people would be content with this answer, but I'm not. I haul cattle for a living, so when I have a roadside break down, it becomes a large ordeal, not just leaving a load of dry freight on the road. I'm at the point where I'll take it to the local shop soon before it grenades, but I'm curious to what the problem is. Because I'm not Yarding out what should be a perfect diff, just for another monkey to tell me "it's just fine". Please help and opinions

Are they plumed in such a way that the power divider also activates the lockers?

No sir, every actuator has seperate switches, air lines were checked for adaqute air pressure and that there weren't on the wrong plungers.

Are the rears heating up,,sounds like to me the "locker" is not disengaging, also check the power divider. could also be the air lines might be crossed?
I had a locker once that did not disengage and the rear diff got very hot.

Here is some thig to try,,pick a flat hard surface,,lock each separately,,drive forward about 200ft. stop and then driver in reverse the same 200ft ft,
do it several times , make sure you are driving a straight line do not turn while you are doing this,,if that does not seem to help do the same making a turn , try in both directions,,

I'd have to agree. Tore all the bolts out of a ring gear once because the full locker wasn't disengaging, and tried to turn in mud with a 106k machine loaded. Started poppin and cracklin' like you described, and that was all she wrote.

Good luck with gettin' it figured out asap hand. Helluva thing in a new rig....

Have someone walk beside the truck too maybe narrow it down. Doesn't make sense going straight. Have race cars with locking differentials and every once in a while might get small clunk when first turning.

Can't you just lift the drives off the ground and rotate each by hand individually to see if a lock is staying engaged?
