I have a 2013 with the stereo interconnected with the factory in-dash nav system. The stereo head unit took a dump and Peterbilt wants $1300.00 for a new one. My local car stereo dealer says they cannot install an alternative stereo without major wiring hacks, which could wreak havoc with the other systems integrated through the dashboard display.

Does anyone know of a adapter harness or does anyone have any insight on how I can work around this? I don't care if I lose all the other functions on the in dash screen, I just want to be able to put it all back as it is when I turn the truck in at the end of the year.

    Thanks in advance

Why don't you just take it to a Stereo Shop that can repair the Head Unit. The Head Unit is still new enough where Service Parts are readily available still.

Tell Peterbilt to replace your stereo head unit under warranty, or none of the thousands of members and surfers hear will ever purchase a product from Pacccar again.

Yup... cause thats totally the way warranty works :smt021

The head units are crazy expensive. I don't know of any direct adapters to run an aftermarket head unit. Sometimes the unit is able to be brought back from the dead by flashing it. If you want an aftermarket one you will need to get diagrams for the wiring and it will have to be all hardwired. If you are returning the truck, I wouldn't do it.

It's out of warranty so that's a no go. Big Rig Stereo does not list a harness/adapter. The problem is that the CD player doesn't work, the USB port is broken and Friday night the auxiliary input broke too. I really don't want to give up all my music while I try to get the thing fixed. Today I'll get the Sirius that's built in activated instead of using my XM through the aux input. I won't have baseball on Sirius or my ipod through the aux input.

My local car stereo shop looked at it & said it would take a major wiring hack to fit an aftermarket stereo, which would almost certainly require a major wiring harness replacement when I want to put everything back stock. Many of the stereo controls are actually controlled through the nav center screen and they were afraid the truck might start throwing weird codes if the nav center is taken out of the loop, so to speak. The nav center screen also presents engine gauges, truck information and other stuff that is obviously coming from the ecm. They thought of putting in an FM modulator but the antenna input can't be found, it is not a normal antenna cable/plug and apparently goes in to the nav center, not the head unit.

My carrier has been kind enough to let me have the truck for the last year of its lease while I deal with the legal BS of my truck being totaled. I just make their cost of the lease payments & run it as an o/o. I could buy it for the residual when the lease is up, but there is no way I want a new truck after my experiences with this & my Cascadia, so I just want to keep it stock until I turn it in.

I looked at the head unit last night- It's made in freaking Italy! Magnetic Marelli- the same people that made the electrics for my Ducati. No wonder it's fragile & expensive. Whatever happened to Made In America?

there is a control unit to the right below the big video screen,,you can pull it out and install a new radio,,the mounting hole is a standard DIN,,wiring harness should just plug into the old one if not look on the net and you can get an adapter ,,google big rig or truck radios,,Delphi and Panasonic make a very good replacement radio. should be able to get an am/fm,cd, sirus for about $200.

I have spent a week trying to find a replacement for mine. DO NOT try to replace the Marelli with ANYTHING else! NO JOKE, if you start cutting and splicing wires that go to your smart nav screen, you will definitely have several CEL's on continuously. The replacement is $586 from Peterbilt. I have admitted defeat, as much as it pains me to spend $586 ...
