GOP Leaders Ask Ethics Probe of Craig

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republican leaders called for an ethics committee review Tuesday into Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's guilty plea in a police sting operation this summer in an airport men's room.
Republican leaders also are "examining other aspects of the case to see if additional action is required," Sen. Mitch McConnell and other top GOP lawmakers said in a written statement.

They released the statement shortly before Craig's scheduled appearance before television cameras in Boise, his first public comments since confirming his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

DIMocrats could learn something from the GOP with this. Imagine a world where DEMocrats would react with responsibility and decisiveness like the Republican leaders. If this was a DEMocrat in trouble, it would be about the cover up and placing the blame somewhere else. It's refreshing to see the GOP taking the lead in this.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this Senator step down, that's another thing would never see from a DIMocrat. Power surpasses responsibility any day with a democrat.

man thats a good one. you are such a kidder! I never knew you had such a great sense of humor. the ONLY reason the republicans are saying this is so they can save face. they don't have a choice. look at Trent Lott. did they force him to step down for his race comments a few years back ? nooo! you been smelling that crap you been shoveling so long your starting to believe it.

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

-- Former Klansman and current US Senator Robert Byrd, a man who is referred to by many Democrats as the "conscience of the Senate", in a letter written in 1944, after he quit the KKK.

"I am a former kleagle of the Ku Klux Klan in Raleigh County and the adjoining counties of the state .... The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia .... It is necessary that the order be promoted immediately and in every state of the Union. Will you please inform me as to the possibilities of rebuilding the Klan in the Realm of W. Va .... I hope that you will find it convenient to answer my letter in regards to future possibilities."

Yes i have read this about 150 times however the Republicans are backed against the wall. they have to take action or be torn apart for not doing anything! as for Byrd....the same as Thurmond....as time goes by people tend to forget.

So in other words, the double standard is alive and well. Republican who say and do bad things are vilified. Democrats who say and do bad things are looked at as having "changed their ways".

Typical.

The Detestable, Decrepit Strom Thurmond
by John Ibbitson
Strom Thurmond turned 99 last month, and they gave him a cake. There were plenty of nice speeches from his fellow senators, and the newspaper reports were respectful, even affectionate. Perhaps those reporters are young. Or perhaps they don't read history, or have forgotten it. Strom Thurmond, the senior senator from South Carolina, is one of the most detestable politicians that the United States has ever produced. A racist #####, he may never have actually donned the white hood and cloak, but he committed the legislative equivalent for decades.

You will find people who dislike others but thats not the feeling among the general public. i think most people liked Strom as they do Byrd. back in their times things were allot different with race relations than it is today. hell even Trent didn't get in that much trouble for what he said a few years ago.
