In Television Forum, Putin Says U.S. Campaign in Iraq Pointless

MOSCOW — President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that the U.S. war in Iraq was a "pointless" battle against the Iraqi people, the latest jab at Washington from the increasingly confrontational Russian leader.

Speaking during an annual televised question-and-answer session, Putin was asked by a mechanic from the Siberian city of Novosibirsk for his thoughts on comments made several years ago by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who suggested that Siberia had too many natural resources to belong to one country.

"I know that some politicians play with such ideas in their heads. This, in my view, is the sort of political erotica that might satisfy a person but hardly leads to a positive result," Putin responded.

"The best example of that are the events in Iraq — a small country that can hardly defend itself and which possesses huge oil reserves. And we see what's going on there. They've learned to shoot there but they are not managing to bring order.

"One can wipe off a political map some tyrannical regime ... but it's absolutely pointless to fight with a people," he said. "Russia, thank God, isn't Iraq. It has enough strength and power to defend itself and its interests, both on its territory and in other parts of the world."

This is nothing new, remember when Clinton sent madliene lessbright to meet (wink) with Kim Jong Ill of North Korea. I bet she feels used. Call me kim, call meeeee.

It always is. But I think the most important issue here, is the fact that Russia can defend itself and also lend a hand to Iran. Bush better back off Iran. He is getting this country into a hornets nest. The bulk of our military is in in close proximity of Russia and Iran. China is not too far away.
Our soldiers are smack dab in the middle of Bush's mess. I'm Afraid that it won't be a good outcome for them if Bush keeps up with his rhetoric. Not saying that Nukes will be used. But, once the first one is fired, then the rest will follow. Russia can hit the US with one. China has 3,000,000 ground troops.

The NEOCONS can start bashing Putin all you want. And make Bush the Big John Wayne type cowboy who's gonna come riding in on a big white horse and save the day. But the fact is, Bush is too stupid, arrogant, and egotistical to not know when to shut up and except what he he has done. Over and over, he has gotten our backs against the wall on foreign policies, and have used our military to get him out. It's not gonna work with Russia. They have too many strong allies. Too many weapons, planes, ships, and fighting men.
