Political Forum 'Venting'

Face it, it's been said many times by many ppl: "Nobody changes anybody's minds here---we are all biased and have made up our minds!" Really, has 'anyone' had their opinion influenced by the discussion on this Forum??? So, dont let it take you to an early grave, but keep in light and friendly! I will be a 'Conservative' til the day that I die...some will be Liberals to the day that they die and go 'elsewhere!' ha ha Sorry, couldnt resist that one. But it is a good place to 'vent' and to reaffirm our beliefs, altho many are wrong. Again, sorry!
So let us 'rant & rave' together in the true spirit of American Democracy----BTW, shud be called Repubcracy! Face it, whomever wins the next Presidential election wont cause immediate change just like the Demo Congress didnt following the last election! It's a sad fact of life...but, get over it!

veryone Please Respond To This I've been posting in this particular forum for several weeks now, and I'm noticing a pattern, namely the great deal of open hostility some folks seem to harbor regarding members of a political party that they aren't affiliated with.

I'm always hearing the Democrats referred to as "dummycrats, dimmocraps, and other names that I can't presently recall. Republicans are referred to in terms equally disrespectful. People with Republican leanings seem to hold the Democrats at fault for all the problems the country has, and likewise the Democrats will swear up and down that things would be wonderful if not for those awful Republicans. Now, since Democrats and Republicans seem about equal in number in the United States, that would lead one to believe that about half the country thinks the other half is completely loony. Could that be? Is the country really half nuts?

One significant thing that I've noticed however is the fact that some of the most prolific users of these derogatory terms for members of opposing political parties seem to be among the most poorly informed, usually relying more on emotionalisms, selectively used cut 'n pastes, and good old prejudices in lieu of facts and intelligent persuasion to support their positions.

So I'm wondering if anyone else notices this and if they thought it would ever be possible to have a political conversation, remain civil, and actually learn something from one and other? Political discussion could be rewarding and enjoyable if only we could do it without all the hostilities and personal attacks and if only some of us could give thoughtful reflection to other's points of view and remain on topic in our responses.

What do you people think of all this? Please take a moment and state your opinions.
rx

Smiley 1 How about..

The gross over usage of the word 'Neocon!' many around here say it like Jerry Seinfeld says the name, "Newman!"

What would you have us say when we are referring to NeoConservatives? They are what they are..and their policy's show it. They've been at work remaking America into something unrecognizable for 30 years...they just kept their heads down and most people didn't notice them until Shrub's administration.

Far as I'm concerned, it's not possible to discuss politics or religion for any length of time in a friendly and light-hearted manner. It just doesn't happen.

I still find it weird that you guys only have two parties... we have many... and it's rare to hear people bashing each other over it (except the politicians themselves, of course).

I agree Brenda...however the Conservatives have been bashing liberals for being everything from pinko communists to fiscally incompetent...and it's funny...then they added atheist to the mix...now the new one is terrorist sympathizer...it's all BS...all of it.

I'd like to see another party that is more populist and actually reflects the people that live here rather than the Corporations and military industrial complex...would be nice...we will have to really fight for it though.

What are some of the parties in Canada and how does that work for elections?

Wow!! Is this correct Brenda? I think this would keep this division we suffer from to a minimum, I'll read more about how this works in your system, it looks more representative than our two party system.

I don't think the two party system is serving America...
