Vice President Signs Supreme Court Brief Pushing for End to D.C. Firearms Ban

Vice President Signs Supreme Court Brief Pushing for End to D.C. Firearms Ban
2/9/08
Quote:
WASHINGTON — Vice President Cheney took the unusual step Friday of joining with lawmakers in signing a Supreme Court brief that goes further in support of gun rights than the one submitted by the Bush administration.

The filings were made in a case that challenges the District of Columbia's ban on handguns. It was scheduled to be argued on March 18.
Both briefs argue that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to own guns. However, the administration contends that too categorical a ruling could threaten other federal gun restrictions and wants the justices to send the case back to lower courts without deciding whether the handgun ban should fall.

Cheney joined more than 300 senators and representatives, led by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, who want the court to rule that Washington's ban is unconstitutional.
"The vice president believes strongly in Second Amendment rights," Cheney spokeswoman Megan Mitchell said.

Seventeen Democratic lawmakers and District of Columbia Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton urged the court to uphold the ban.
Lawyers with long experience at the court could not recall another case in which a vice president took a position different from that of his own administration.

This is about the only thing I can agree with Cheney on.

Good on the Veep and those 300 senators and reps.

Heck, everyone in the country, historicaly speaking, has known that the Second Amendment is to protect an individual's right to KEEP and bear arms, save a few leftist liberal commies like Pelosi, Feinstien, Boxer, Hitlery, Shumer. I'm sure I missed a few others who dispise the things that made this country great....

Oh, there are others out there in the undergrowth as well.

I've said before and I'll repeat again...

The second ammendment IS the one article in the original 10 that give the others their "Teeth"

Tyrants and Dictators PREFER unarmed SUBJECTS.

Now...if we can get the California legislature to lift the ban on high capacity semi automatic rifles and pistols...note I DIDN'T say assault weapons here...all will be well with the United States in regard to gun laws for the moment.

Note....assault weapons ARE by definition...fully automatic weapons.

Semi automatic weapons although they MAY resemble their fully automatic military version cousins are only rifles and pistols that RESEMBLE assault weapons.

I personally believe that the Congress needs to do away with ALL gun ownership laws concerning law abiding citizens and never look back.

In the long run...our country WOULD be a safer place to live.

It would ensure our rights to defend ourselves against ALL ENEMIES...

FOREIGN and DOMESTIC.

It is quite reassuring to know they'll never get mine. I have personaly self declared all of my guns exempt from any leftist liberal registrations or confications. God gave me that right.

Y'all should declare yours as well.

Kennesaw Georgia. Even though their population has tripled in 20 years, their violent crime (in numbers) hasn't gone up, which statistically lowered the rate.
(violent crime per 100,000 population)

Generaly speaking, I've not been a supporter of the Democrats ideology, especialy the far leftists. But in all fairness, I'd like to give some props to the following democrats who had the balls to sign their name to Amicus brief.

[obvious on]
No shock that Hitlery, Kennedy, Kohl, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, and other key kommies choose not to support the belief that the 2nd amendment affords the premise of individuals to KEEP and BEAR arms.

You'll notice the lack of support by both Democrat Presidential hopefuls on the list as well.

This should be a real eyeopener for ALL gunowners in the US today.

If you're considering a vote for Hillary or Obama...and you're a gunowner...or even if you're not a gunowner, but you believe in the preservation of the Second Amendment of The Constitution...

Consider voting to preserve your Second Amendment Rights instead.

It's voting records on basic rights such as this that need a closer look.
