Olive Branch? As long as I don't have to carry it in my beak and land on some rickety boat full of stinking animals.

Really? In order to get an accurate answer to the "best of the bunch" thingy, we would have to check each candidates voting record going into that terms primaries. If you're interested, google "(name) on the issues", and see if that candidate voted in the best interest of you and your family. Only you will know the true answer. I wonder how many here have even bothered to check their candidate's voting record for this election... |

The first flag that struck me in the forehead was that it only dated back to 1986. By 1986, the damage was done. Let me explain with a little truthful history... After the depression, FDR gave this country a strong shot in the arm by raising corporate taxes to around 50% of profits, and taxes on income over $3 million per year (in today's dollars) to 91%. The result... Schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges were built. The railroads were revitalized, an interstate highway system was funded, and a new generation of war veterans were educated. Fast forward......to the late 1950s... A young JFK opined that, if we cut taxes back to 70%, but closed all loopholes in the tax code, we actually have a tax increase. And so it was... JFK got it done, and Americans continued to build America. Education and healthcare were affordable, and available to the most modest of households. Every billion dollars (3 days in Iraq) invested in infrastructure created 47,000 jobs. (whew!!!) People of that era could work, play, and then.....retire. And...if you believe...we put a man on the moon... Fast forward again......to the early 1980s... Ronald Reagan took office and immediately cut taxes on the wealthiest of Americans from 70% to 27%. Corporate taxes were cut from 33% of total tax reciepts to 9 paltry percent. The result? Red ink. Lots of it. America went so far into debt, so fast, that Reagan doubled the FICA tax, then borrowed from the Social Security till. Question: What was the cap on FICA during the Reagan Administration? Hint: No where near "wealthy" status. Even so, Reagan borrowed more money in 8 years than every other President of the United States before him.........COMBINED. And so here we are...the GWB tax cuts...and little purty tax facts dreamt up by a republican think tank. The truth about the GWB tax cuts, in short, is...... Taxes were lowered a little for everyone. Capitol gains taxes were slashed from 38% to 15%. The estate tax will be erased in 2010. Show of hands please...are the capitol gains and estate tax cuts going to benefit anyone here? |
