Before the [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. took over [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. in 1975 and killed approximately 2 million people, Schanberg wrote positively in The New York Times about the coming regime change, writing about the Cambodians that "it is difficult to imagine how their lives could be anything but better with the Americans gone." A dispatch he wrote on April 13, 1975, written from Phnom Penh, ran with the headline "Indochina without Americans: for most, a better life."
Yeah, except for the 2 million dead.
The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, the Vietnam Conflict, and, in Vietnam, the American War, occurred from 1956 to April 30, 1975. The war was fought between the communist Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and its communist allies and the US-supported Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). It concluded with the withdrawal of the United States from active combat, the dissolution of South Vietnam, and the failure of United States foreign policy in Vietnam.
Over 1.4 million military personnel were killed in the war (of which 6 percent were members of the United States armed forces), while estimates of civilian fatalities range up to 2 million. On April 30, 1975, the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, fell to the communist forces of North Vietnam, effectively ending the Vietnam War.

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, fell to the Khmer Rouge on April 17, 1975. The last official American military action in Southeast Asia occurred on May 15, 1975. Forty-one U.S. military personnel were killed when the Khmer Rouge seized a U.S. merchant ship, the SS Mayaquez. The episode became known as the Mayaquez incident.
The Pathet Lao overthrew the royalist government of Laos in December 1975. They established the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese officials, particularly ARVN officers, were imprisoned in reeducation camps after the Communist takeover.Tens of thousands died and many fled the country after being released. Up to two million civilians left the country, and as many as half of these boat people perished at sea.
On July 2, 1976, theSocialist Republic of Vietnam was declared. After repeated border clashes in 1978, Vietnam invaded Democratic Kampuchea (Cambodia) and ousted the Khmer Rouge. As many as two million died during the Khmer Rouge genocide.
Vietnam began to repress its ethnic Chinese minority. Thousand fled and the exodus of the boat people began. In 1979, China invaded Vietnam and the two countries fought a brief border war, known as the Third Indochina War or the Sino-Vietnamese War.

I don't think we can be blamed for what happened...Viet Nam has paid a terrible toll in human life for decades. We never should have gone in...however, they seem to be doing well now and we are trade partners.
How exactly did this guy get it wrong?

Yes, I can see how YOU might think it does, however, I disagree with your presumption. I'm not making something out of nothing...this is an odd story and Vets and their families think so too.

I'll consider the source...and you are calling names again....sarcasm and name calling=flatulence.

So is this really all that unusual, I am not sure it is.
Yes, it is possible. However, it's an odd set of facts. It isn't that he doesn't want to talk about it, he doesn't want anyone to look into it or investigate it, or try to find out about the ones that were left behind...that's odd.
When put into perspective yes I do find it strange...it has been a question for a long time...why, where are the rest?
Even if you have no questions...maybe THIS is what he's hiding??? LMAO!!

This is pretty interesting stuff...and scary too. I've often wondered how McCain came home and so many didn't.
Cause they DIED, and he didn't? But that answer would only be obvious to a free-thinker.

Amazing...I'm sure they did ultimately...but there were many reports of Americans alive still captive...and even if they died why can't their families know what is known?

I agree in part, the fact that there may have been some of our troops in captivity left over there when we pulled out, however it is hardly McCain's fault. At least LESS his fault than it was the responsibility of the successive Administrations since Nixon.

If you read the link, his behavior around this has been strange..controlling and not helpful for these families.

What I am reading is that the McCain Bill required that the PNOK (Primary Next of Kin) GIVE PERMISSION before any information about "treatment, location or condition" of known MIA be released to the General Public. I fail to see a problem with this.
There is also indication that the author believes that the McCain Act was used illegally to prevent divulging certain information to APBNews. If that is the case, it is up to ABPNews to take the matter to Court. The author DOES NOT mention if ABPNews has done so. Is the author biased against McCain? Did he intentionally not include this bit of information for Political reasons?
Two questions that deserve answer by the author in order to fully understand the article.
What is also telling about this article...as biased as it appears, is that Democratic Darling: John Kerry had his hands on it too. If it true that McCain deliberately acted with indifference toward alleged "live" sightings, is Kerry as culpable as McCain?

It falls to need to know vs right to know and want to know.
The next of kin have a Need and a Right to know.....
Everybody else falls under WANT to know.
I'll respect the privacy of the families of my fallen brothers and sisters from that war by not asking...and not feel snubbed when the information isn't on the front page for everybody to read.
Move on......
