Bush to Congress: Embrace energy exploration, Democrats: No way

By H. JOSEF HEBERT, Associated Press Writer
34 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - With gasoline topping $4 a gallon, President Bush urged Congress on Wednesday to lift its long-standing ban on offshore oil and gas drilling, saying the United States needs to increase its energy production. Democrats quickly rejected the idea.

Glad to see the Dem's stand up to him.
Drilling will not solve this problem. the oil companies already have huge areas of land and sea they have not drilled. as long as this would take to bare fruit (if it ever did) we would be well on our way to alternative energy anyway.
Of course if left up to Bush the oil companies would do as they pleased.

And do you know why it would take so long? Two words....red tape. Republican Chris Cannon from Utah, was supposed to introduce a bill today to cut all the b.s red tape that would be involved to start drilling and extracting oil shale. He says if there was no red tape involved, we could see the first barrel of oil in 12 to 18 months. But it's never going to happen because of the dems They just don't get it.

So let me get this right
Bush is wrong for not doing anything
He is also wrong at the same time for pressuring to do something
I did hear his speech and was pleased

Yep, Smurphy you are so right.
Drilling for oil wont solve an oil shortage, just like planting more corn won't solve a food shortage.

I grew up in an area where we had above-ground, circular irrigation, running over lo-profile, reeled-cable oil pumpjacks, as well as open range cattle around std beam-type oil pumpjacks. All lived very well with each other!! And, the last I've heard, the wild life around the Alaskan pipeline love the heat coming off of it.

Come on people, lets DRILL!

Let me get this straight...All you folks seem to think that the current (and permanent) high price of oil is caused by some sort of shortage? And if we simply drilled for more oil the price would drop?
