Politics Do Not Pass/Pass With Care. Today's truckers are far more educated and cognizant of the issues regarding politics due to the sharp increase in talk radio, and various trucking news media sources. Talk politics. Do truckers like politicians?

The only truly SAFE SEX is masturbation. Nobody gets PG and nobody gets an STD.

That being said ..... its a very sad state of affairs in this country that so many folks, even in this thread have passed the parental responsibility of sex ed off to the school to teach them about BJs, dildos and on and on.

The way my parents were, it was a good thing we had sex ed in school. Luckily, I can have those kinds of conversations with my kids without us all being embarrassed, even with all three of them being boys! Luckily, my hubby isn't a stick-in-the-mud about that topic either, so he has been a big help, even though the older two are not his.

Being too embarrassed to talk about it is no excuse! There are many many many written materials available that can be used to break the ice.

Sex ed should not be in the schools. period.

I have 3 books here, published by TimeLife, (I think) that are the greatest sex ed tool ever produced. They have gone thru all three kids and been read by several others.

The first does not cover anything other than how a baby is created and comes into this world, and various methods of birth control, possible miscarriage and mentions elective abortion only in passing.

The second covers sexual variations... (nuff said)

And the third covers things like rape, sexual harrassment, etc..

If they taught these books in school, it would be great, but the schools say these books do not cover all the material they think should be covered. In my opinion, these books cover almost too much.

My ex-girlfriend and I became pregnant when I was 17 and she was 16. We had both gone through sex ed and still decided to act irresponsibly. It's our fault, not the politicians. We now have a beautiful 12 year old daughter. I am also a step father to two other girls (12,13) and a boy (14). They all already know about sex because their mother and I have made sure that they know. Anything that the school teaches them is just more of the same to them.

Unfortunately, there are parents out there that figure 'if it isn't discussed, it can't happen'. I have no problem discussing any topic with my boys, from sex, to their favorite video games, to politics, to the military, to movies. I adjust the discussion to suit the age, but we can discuss anything. If it is something they would rather discuss with my hubby because he's a guy, I have no problem with that. I understand that sometimes they just feel more comfortable talking with another guy about some things, especially the first time.

Here is a mistake that no parent should make!

When I was much much younger I asked my dad a question that apparently was too much for him. I don't remember the question, but will always remember the response.

"I'm busy right now"

Later when he brought the subject up I told him to forget about it and walked off. The subject never came up again, along with other subjects that he should have been there for me.

Brickman - you are so right, that is the worst thing that a parent could say! It's just nuts that parents don't want to discuss things with their kids. How do they think the kids are going to learn?

I'm really, really sorry that happened Bricky. It never should happen that way.

In this household, there are always plenty of persons to discuss things with. There are always different perspectives on things. And there are no restrictions on topics covered. Even Uncle Bob will get involved in a sexual discussion with the younger ones. He even goes into the store to get tampons and Midol. Heavens, Uncle Bob is the one who explained to William how a baby gets out of Mommy. (He didn't believe what I told him., and I told him the simplified truth. "Mommy pushes them out.") But then, this is how it has always been. We don't like the way it is taught at shcool, so we teach them everything we can here at home.
