Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Politics Do Not Pass/Pass With Care. Today's truckers are far more educated and cognizant of the issues regarding politics due to the sharp increase in talk radio, and various trucking news media sources. Talk politics. Do truckers like politicians?

Obama plots huge railroad expansion

Obama plots huge railroad expansion

Quote:
Railroads made Chicago, and now a Chicago-rich White House wants to return the favor: remaking rail with a huge new federal investment in high-speed passenger trains.

The $787.2 billion economic recovery bill — to be signed by President Barack Obama on Tuesday — dedicates $8 billion to high-speed rail, most of which was added in the final closed-door bargaining at the instigation of White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

It’s a sum that far surpasses anything before attempted in the United States — and more is coming. Administration officials told Politico that when Obama outlines his 2010 budget next week, it will ask for $1 billion more for high-speed rail in each of the next five years.

it would be a little easier to swallow if it wasn't going from Disneyland directly into fantasy land, i wonder if there will be a side trip to neverland ranch so that the gamblers can drop off them pesky kids, heard that Mikey could use some money

At least freight won't move on it. Never get that weight to go that fast and can't put a slow train on the same tracks as a superfast one and expect much scheduling options.

but.. if you can weld underwater I suppose anything's possible.

The high speed rail portion is for a project that would create a high speed line between Los Angeles and Las Vegas enabling a train to travel at 300 mph.
At the cost of 8 BILLION

300mph on land, controlled by a gov't employee (union) is a scary thought.

frankly.. i wish we had more passenger train service in the US.. HOWEVER i don't think a maglev train from CA to Las Vegas is a good idea.

the only passenger trains i can even think of are the commuter ones in Chicago and on the east coast, as well as the 'car train' that runs from somewhere on the east coast to Sanford Florida.
