Five more members of Congress back 'Right to Repair' bill

Five more members of Congress back 'Right to Repair' bill

Quote:
Following the recent introduction of the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act (HR 2057) into the 111th Congress, the bill gained five more co-sponsors last week, according to Kathleen Schmatz, president and chief executive officer of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association.

Reps. Rick Boucher (D-Va.), Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.), Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.) have joined the bill’s original co-sponsors, Reps. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.), Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Georga Miller (D-Calif.).

“Within a week of the bill’s introduction, the inclusion of these five members of Congress from both sides of the aisle signals growing support in Congress for the Right to Repair Act,” Schmatz says. “We applaud their commitment to ensuring that motorists in their districts retain the choice of where to have their vehicles serviced and repaired.”

“Right to Repair has become more important than ever as motorists seek new neighborhood repair shops because a dealership has closed in their area,” Schmatz says. “This important piece of legislation ensures that local auto repair remains available to car owners throughout the country.”
Hi-lited; I wonder who's fault that is. Must be the "evil" Big 3.

How much longer are we going to tollerate Government interfearing with private industry. Correct me if I'm wrong but unless you really live out in the sticks there are usually 2 or more of the same brand of car dealerships within a 20 minute drive. I grew up in a town of about 8,000 people, there were 2 ford, chevy, toyota, honda etc all within 20 minutes of where I lived. Just another example of give them an inch and they'll take a foot.

Guess I live in the sticks.

Just lost the local Chrysler dealer. Lost the Ford about 10 years ago. Now the others are 30 miles away and there are only one of each. Those dealers are more commonly known as stealers.

Over the next few years I expect to see many more auto dealers close up shop; this issue will become increasingly relevant. It's reassuring to see lawmakers planning and legislating with the future in mind.

What's next? Every home in America must be located within 10 miles of a car repair shop or dealer?

What's next, every five miles needs at least one dentist?

Businesses locate where they can be profitable.

I tend to agree, people can take care of themselves. People don't need the Govt holding their hand and telling private industry you'll do this and you'll build a shop there. Give us some credit that we can solve our problems on our own without your help.

Not the issue here.

Do you think folks should have the right to have warranty work performed at an independent repair shop?

That's up to the shop which work they want to perform, not the government.

Absolutely true, but do you think the consumer should have the right to have warranty work performed at an independent shop?

Do you think independent shops should have the right to perform warranty work?

Is the government attempting to force independent shops to perform warranty work for manufacturers?

Is there any other issue here?
