Politics Do Not Pass/Pass With Care. Today's truckers are far more educated and cognizant of the issues regarding politics due to the sharp increase in talk radio, and various trucking news media sources. Talk politics. Do truckers like politicians?

You know damn well if this was Bush, you'd be all up in arms about it, rex. How about a little intellectual honesty and maybe even a hint of support for LEO's and all the hell their survivors go through losing their loved ones in the line of duty. "I don't have a beef with police officers" is a far cry from supporting their work. The rest of you post is completely irrational and intellectually dishonest.
Do a law enforcement officer's survivor's go through more hell than a truck driver's who has lost his life in the line of duty? How about a fireman's? How about a streetcar conductor's?

They don't....
They also don't get called to domestic scenes, crimes, etc.
If somebody was breaking in a house, and you were called, would you be ready to risk your life to protect the stranger that owned the house?

Another irrational argument.

Firemen are covered under the same act that LEO's are.

Sorry to offend a few of you so deeply. My only purpose in commenting about this issue was to point out hypocrisy by one of our more prolific posters.

However, I will stand by my feeling that a policeman's life is no more or no less valuable than anyone else's, and if a police officer loses his (or her) life in the line of duty, the survivors experience no greater or less sense of loss than anyone else.

Anyone know just when we started awarding the widows and orphans of slain police and firefighters with extra benefits? Hint- it was fairly recently...

What's hypocrisy?

No one says they do, but taxpayers issue their checks, not private companies.

deaths in the line of duty wont decrease anytime soon. and probably never. its simply a function of the population increase. more people = more police and more police = more police killed in the line of duty.
its a simple proportionality function. unless you can compare the % of police employed vs the number who are killed the number is ALWAYS going to go up.

i don't think short of arming the Police Departments to the level of our Military troops with weaponry and armor we will see a decrease even ignoring the above section of this post.

The title of your post seems a bit misleading...

If a cop could afford life insurance, in the amount needed to keep a family, over the course of his/her working career, on a cops salary it ain't gonna happen.

Most insurance companies will not even issue policies to LEO's

I don't find the title of the post mis-leading.
and the rest of your post was definately irrational so I deleted it from the quote.

BTW: People who place themselves in jepordy for another are SPECIAL.

I personally have had three friends slain in the line of duty. I'll go tell their children and spouses that according to you they didn't do squat.

When you stand at the grave of a slain police officer as I have, or you sit listening to the police scanner as your own spouse is being fired upon as I have.......and then hear the words "officer down" and you have NO idea if it's your spouse or your friend's spouse......... when you've done those things rex, then you come back and tell me how regular police aren't expected to take a bullet.

Sometimes you REALLY ought to think before you type.

Oh and rex........perhaps you're not aware of just how wrong you are: when Reagan was shot a District of Columbia police officer was too. The bullet was meant for President Reagan but the cop took it. A secret service agent was hit as was Brady.
