|
The "poor" prior to FDR had enough pride not hold out their hands and beg...they went to work...doing whatever it took to get back on their feet.... My grandparents on my father's side lost their farm in OK back in the 30's....They didn't whine and hold out their hands.....They went to California and found work..... Welfare has made it too easy for people to depend on government and for generations I might add.... Perhaps if we followed our laws and kicked out every illegal...and that just doesn't mean the Hispanics...that also means the Canadians, Chinese, and the European illegals as well; then eliminate welfare to every able bodied person collecting it. We have produce to pick, can or package.... We have garbage on roadside that needs policing... There is so much that these welfare leeches could be doing if we followed our laws.... BTW....where in the Constitution does it say that there is a right to "Welfare"?????
Probably the same place it states "the will of the people" want "comprehensive reform" to "create the greater good" with legislation and mandates, enforced with the tax code and sold with class warfare rhetoric restricting INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY in the PURSUIT of Happiness...

| I guess I am slow........because I just dont understand the concept of apologizing for something that you did not do, had no part in and do not approve of and had no control over. Maybe I should send an apology to the Russians for what Stalin did to millions of them. Maybe I should apologize to the Brits for Hitler killing so many of them in WW2. Or how about apologizing to Muslim women for how their religion treats them? Makes just as much sense. |

| How can one owe money for something "they" have no control over? My family owned slave back in the day & from what I've read in our family Bibles & papers it sounds like they had it better than most of the blacks living in the ghetto now. So do I feel I should pay or even appoligize? NO! Head over to Africa & demand reperations from the ones that sold us the slaves in the first place.. Good luck with that. |

| Don't believe that is the definition of welfare the founding fathers had in mind. Would think that back then if one couldn't work or contribute in some way they starved! Remember the Constitution is a "living" document. Maybe we can work to get the word welfare "your interuptertation anyhow" out of it! Quote:

My whole point was/is, slavery was an atrocity that this country will have to live with....but GENERATIONS LATER, the ancestors of the original victims should NOT receive monies they think they are owed, simply by virtue of them being "African-American". Which, BTW, I find that term offensive. If you are BORN here, you are(or should be) FIRST, an AMERICAN! I am not German/Polish-American....I am, simply, an American, of German and Polish descent, and whatever other mix is in my heritage (of which there is quite a bit of NATIVE AMERICAN.) Reparations to people for things that happened of which I had no control? ABSOLUTELY NOT. A blanket apology to the descendants, in the name of my forefathers? Yes Again, this is ONLY my opinion. I'm not asking anyone to agree/disagree. Approve of my thoughts/feeling, or disapprove. I am merely stating my opinion. Thank you. Judi Kay
