I understand. But what you don't understand is that you nor I have no control over it. We don't have a democratic government. We have a republic. So therefore, we can't make the decision. We dont get a vote. The people that was put up there to represent us, have the only say so. And unfortunatley, the GOP did such a lousey job running the country down, spending us into oblivion, that the democrats took the majority in both houses of congress and the white house.

So therefore, we are going to get democrat/liberal governing, laws and a national health care plan. I don't support it. I don't like it. I personally like Ron Pauls health care plan, where you got tax deductions for 100% of all medical expences. But, that's not going to happen either.

We all have to "give in to control". Or move out of the country. Maybe the republican citizens will be a little smarter next time, before they go and vote for another George Bush type republican... But it looks as if they will. I see Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee are probably going to run again. Which will be no different that Bush. Trust me on that. I've done the research.

There are millions of low paying jobs in the service industry and like it or not there are real people with real needs doing those jobs. To you they don't even qualify as being "working people" so the next time I'm getting unloaded at some dock I'll tell the low paid workers,"hey, you know what? you folks are not even workers and you don't even count in this country." Your view is narrow to the extreme and is very typical of the attitude that has always allowed the exploitation of people deemed unworthy,lazy, stupid and somehow less deserving of a decent life.

No where in that statement did I denigrate the job, what I did denigrate was the way the job was performed. The lazy kid is not "working" in my book, the kid who is hustling trying to get ahead is working.

And finally, "a decent life" is not guaranteed to anyone, let alone deserved. A decent life is earned. We have a little line in our Declaration of Independence which states,

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Get that? the PURSUIT of happiness is an is alienable right, not happiness.

You MAY be right...but one thing I understand quite well is; THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN THIS COUNTRY CANNOT even get the day of the week straight, much less "manage" ANYTHING.

Gov't INTRUSION/INTERFERENCE/LEGISLATION/MANDATES are THE PROBLEM. Legislation no matter how benevolent or "competetively" it is shoved down our throats does NOTHING but "create havoc".

And BTW, YOUR assessment/OPINION of MY cognative ability is WAY OFF TRACK. For instance; I recognize quite well "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...then by God it is a "DUCK". This #### ain't rocket science. It's INDOCTRINATION which is a "mind control/game" with MARXISTS....so, STOP telling me what YOU think(?) I don't understand.

You just don't get it. There is an entire class of people who are the "working poor" in the country. You and many like you would claim well these people in low paying jobs can just quit and find a better job. That's just a load of #### and anyone who believes it is as dumb as a fence post. My point is that we need these people in their low paying jobs to provide all the menial services that we take for granted. If their pay does not allow them to provide the basic necessities of life for them and their dependents then the society that tolerates this is just an exploitive, user society that really does not care much for human rights or dignity.

Do we need fully functioning adults to flip burgers?

Is there a shortage of teenagers or retired folks in this country?

And why is there a class of "working poor" in the first place, were these people denied educational opportunities that would enable them to strive to be more than "the fry guy"?

The answer to all of these questions is "No". And we don't "need" anybody in a menial job.

Fully functioning adults who are unhappy flipping burgers were given an opportunity to attend school for 12 years, how they spent those 12 years and what they took away from that opportunity is a choice they made.

A choice they, and they alone, should have to live with.

I'll save my sympathy for those who truly deserve it.

You don't NEED anybody in a menial job? So you want to serve yourself when you go out to eat. You want to clean your own hotel room when you check in. You don't need any retail stores. There is no need for gardeners or pool cleaners. Labourers of the land we don't need you any more we will do all the work ourselves.

We don't need any as in we have more than enough. Way more than enough with the current unemployment rates.

That is not the point. The point is that the millions that do these jobs deserve to be paid enough so that they can supply themselves and their families with the basic necessities of life. There is no way they can afford health insurance the way things are today.
You must realize that there is a very real connection between the starvation wages paid to many and the whole problem of illegal immigration. I've been commenting on it for 25 years at least. For a long time everyone in athourity looked the other way as the illegals came in to do the jobs that no one else would because of low pay, bad conditions, no benefits etc. Meanwhile there are millions of Americans on welfare who could do these jobs if it was a decent step up for them to do so. We had the same problem here in Canada where a person was actually worse off working for the minimum than they would be on social assistance. We largely solved that problem by making it worthwhile for the working poor to work. I have a daughter that is a single mother of 2 boys. She has a minimum wage job and there is no possible way she could raise those kids on that income. The federal government gives her about $700 a month as a type of reverse income tax and the provincial government gives her free perscriptions and child care. Without those programes she would just have to go on welfare and that would cost the country a lot more in the short term and the long term. In the long term these types of programes prevent the culture of generational welfare cases from happening so much and in the natural progression of employment many of these people are promoted in their jobs to the point where they require no more assistance. She also lives in a housing co-op where her rent is very low and geared directly to income. I don't know if they exist in the USA but they are a great idea and work very well. The government supplies the inital investment to build the housing and then it is set up somewhat like a condo is with a board of directors from the co-op. They are governed by rules that are set up and one of the rules is that they must at least break even and can not run a deficit. They therefore have a mix of tenants, everyone from people with only welfare as their income whose rent is totally subsidized to working people who pay market price for theirs. These co-ops are beautiful,well maintained,safe places to live and cost the taxpayers nothing. With programs like these the working poor can have some dignity and enjoy their lives free from the fear of homelessness. This all ties into the long range Canadian idea of a "Guaranteed anual income" that the country has been working towards for 30 years. We are not there yet but in time we will make it.

Yes, we have places like that. We even have HUD which will pay more than full rent on a large house for a family. We have the welfare stuff, food stamps, financial aid, all that.

Last I checked, MacDonalds was paying over $9 an hour and that was about 5 years ago. That was more than I made on a lot of jobs I worked, including driving a boxtruck delivering siding. So menial jobs and starvation pay do not go hand in hand.

The whole problem of illegal immigration is the government not enforcing the laws and doing their highly overpaid job to keep the borders secure.

You guys have been working on the whole mess for 30 years so you can see that there's not an easy solution. We've been working at it in many ways too. But nobody deserves a guaranteed set amount of pay. If you did guarantee that everyone was paid, you'd end up with a massive hoard of lazy people collecting checks and nothing else. Trust me, we've seen that here.
